C-Dorys in the San Juans 2011

Pat, is that the little cove on the South end of Decatur, with the isthmus separating it from Lopez Pass and the tiny, unnamed Island that is actually connected to Decatur at really low tides?

I wish I was on Decatur so I could swing by!

El took these shots of me rowing the dinghy in Tombolo Cove (not named on charts, but yes, it is the one right by Lopez Pass), and Daydream leaving the cove. We are at Friday Harbor Marina right now for showers, had a nice evening on the dock! Jan and Stacey have taken off for Canada on C-Change, but Don and Dee are here on Knotty C, and shared their crab! So we have Daydream, Halcyon, C-Dancer, Knotty C and Nama Bickie (our neighbor's Trophy).

That's right across from our cabin on Center - the Centroids call it "Honeymoon" rather than "'Tombolo". It's a great place to go ashore because most of the land is SJ Preservation Trust (there is one parcel protected by a conservation easement as you head towards Decatur Shores).

Our week in the San Juans is drawing to close, sadly. We could stay out another month! Thanks to Garry and Vicki, Bill and El, Jan and Stacey, Peter and Caryn and Don and Dee for the delightful company! It was grand! We'll be puling out some time after lunch I think. On to Lake Powell!!!!

Thanks for the local info, Keith. It is one of our favorite anchorages, whether you call it Honeymoon or Tombolo - it isn't named on the charts, so we called it by its physical description!

One final note on the boat name Nama Bickie. It is not some obscure Coast Salish name, but Vicki's two year old granddaughter Gracie's rendition of "Grandma Vicki"! The Trophy had no name, so what were we going to say to raise the Trophy on the VHF? Nama Bickie was a natural! I am not sure Garry and Vicki know it yet, but their next boat will undoubtedly be a Cutwater 28!

Pat, enjoyed this thread & the beautiful photos. Even after retirement good times must end-----just not as often

Will see you at Powell,

Jay

Pat and Patty,

We had such a good time cruising with Daydream, Peter and Caryn in C Dancer, Bill and El in Halcyon, and Garry and Vicki in Nama Bickie. After we went our own way on Friday we met up with John and Amy at Blakely Island and then had an impromptu visit with Tom and Susan when we had a tire blow out on our trailer between Mt. Vernon and Marysville. (Thanks, Tom and Susan for putting us up for the night.) This was one of the best weeks we have spent in the San Juans. Even the blow out didn't put a damper on our memories. Fun times, great food, and fabulous company.

Don and Dee

We had a great time as well :D Spending time with Pat & Patty, El & Bill, Peter & Caryn, Garry & Vicki was one of the highlights of our trip. Sorry we just missed Don and Dee.

We also had a great dinner in Sidney with Ken and Lynn on Woodduck and Al & Karen on Harmony. The rest of the week included; Newcastle Island near Naniamo, two days in Vancouver in the Coal Harbor marina, a fun day in Montegue Harbor and a wonderful day in Shallow Bay on Sucia Island.

As usual, we could have stayed out much longer, but the thing they call " work" was always in the background demanding our return. In a few years that to will pass..... I think Pat will beat me on that one, but still it is not too far in the future. :cry

Jan, on our ham net, we are prohibited from even saying the word "work." It must be W-zero-R-K! Yup, it does somewhat interfere with the serious enjoyment of things!

We are anchored up with Bill and El at Chuckanut Bay right now for one last hoorah, we dropped the crab pots out at the entrance to Chcukanut, hoping for some of those 7 inchers that Don caught that so far have eluded us. Some Ryan's Irish Cream and cherry pie really topped off the evening last night!

I left early yesterday so I can come in late on Monday. :) We plan to hang on to it as long as we possibly can, probably get motoring back to Squalicum about 5:30 a.m. Monday morning, so I can get back to w0rk by 10 a.m.

We might squeeze in one more weekend in the San Juans or maybe just here at Chuckant before Powell too. But with the Webasto, look for us at Andrews Bay any weekend during the winter!

I knew El and Bill were around somewhere. Just wondering if anyone knew where they were headed next, and maybe when. Or if the "Halcyon" crew see this, just curious if you are going to be around the PNW for a while yet, like maybe for the Sequim CBGT? Sure hope to get to spend some time at some point, on the water this summer, now that it is here.

Success at last! Nine crab yesterday, including three over 7". Caught in about 80' at the entrance to Chucknut Bay. Pots have been soaking overnight, we'll see what we have today! Fired up the toaster oven, El had the avocado, and viola, open face toasted crab sannies with avocado! Yummo!
