C-dory value

I am looking at a 22' 1990 c-dory cabin cruiser with a yamaha 115 (20 hrs), 8 hp kicker (yamaha), all electronics (gps, chart pltter, vhf, radar), shrimp pot puller, diesel heater, trailer, all well cared for (from a friend of the families and I know for a fact he dumped the boat in fresh water after every use and ran the motors). All electronics are with in 5 years. Boat is an 7.5 -8 on a 10 point scale.

My question is what do you think it's worth?
 
I would say that it would sell pretty quickly between $25,000 to $30,000 and maybe even more if it is in Anchorage or nearby. This isn't just a gut feeling, it is from what other c-dory folks have told me that they have sold or bought boats for of the same era as the one you are looking at. There is a guy just down the street from my house in Wasilla that paid $27,000 last summer for an old 82 or so in pretty good condition with newer four stroke power. Sounds like a great boat and there is nothing like not having to drive that excuse of a highway called the ALCAN if you can avoid it to pick up a boat.
 
The asking price is 25,000. It is in Soldotna. It looks like this is right in the ball park. I owned a 2006 22' Searunner when I lived in AK before and I am looking forward to seeing how the c-dory handles and performs!
 
I hope you join the brats with your purchase. It sounds like a fair price to me considering the equipment on it.
Make sure you investigate any hull/transom dry rot problems as repairing that would not be cheap or easy.

T.R.Bauer......the ALCAN hyw. is in excellent condition and no problem for pulling a boat over it. I did it last spring w/o any problems. A few bad spots between Haines Jt. and Tok but otherwise good.

I will be driving it again in mid-April from the Pacific NW if someone wants a boat up here. Will do it for fuel costs. I have made 65 trips over it.

Also thanks for the tips on the ALCAN. I am pulling up an 11,000lb 24' trailer in February and a my in laws Tacoma with a couple 7.3 diesels. Haven't made the trip for 5 years now.
 
The highway is in good condition for the most part I agree. It is the construction zones that get to me when things are in full swing in the summer. I drove it twice earlier this year and is was much better going South in late May then it was coming North in mid July. And this has been my experience every year I have driven it which is almost every year for the last 15 or so years. One year I drove it in March and it was the best I have ever seen. I suppose I shouldn't compain; it is not that bad, but I have just gotten to the point that I hate the trip I guess. If the boat checks out ok, I think 27k is a very good price, especially up here.

Yes 25k would be a fare price to pay and a good opportunity to get into a nicely outfitted 22ft C-dory at less than half of what you would pay new.

But on the other hand, it's a 1990 and e-bay has a "new" 2008 Cruiser for $130,000 and you can buy a 2005 for 1/3 the price. What's with that?

What model of C-dory Cruiser? 1/3 of 130k is 43k, that's a far price for 05 22ft, but 130k is over the top for that same model; way over the top!
 
These boats are unbelievable how they keep their resale value .The only other boats that seem to hold their value are the Arima's and to a lesser degree the boston whaler's
We had a 99 cruiser with a newer 90 suzuki and we sold it for what we paid .Bought in 9/05 sold 6/08 2yrs ago
I know the economic climate is not the same but if it has a newer 4stroke with maybe some warranty left that seems like a fair price
Go to Forums on top and then go to market place to find what some of these c-dory's sold for .Good Luck on your Quest Jim

From my perspective, it's a matter of having a boat in production long enough to reach the long tail of a deprecation curve but still be considered desirable, coupled with the effects of inflation. <grin> And it can be a very distinct line - if the older boat is not considered desirable, then it's not worth making expensive repairs, and then it's just a matter of time until it's parked in a field forever.

A couple of other boat lines in this same vein of sustained value would be Grady White and Grand Banks.
 
Good points. One of the other factors with the C Dory, is that the basic hull is little changed thru the years. Many of the Grady Whites had transom problems prior to change of core material (and related to not having the top of the transom sealed). There was also a definate hull change the Grady White, and Whalers. The Grand banks change has been subtle.

211hrs on 115 & 8hp Honda to be exact :wink:
 
I was wondering if you were on here! 211 Hours? I am not sure where I got 20 hours from?

Ok, So same specs with 211 hours on a Yamaha 115? how about some values on that?
 
what yr are the engines Yamaha had 3yr warrantys some had the extra 3 yrs .So the motors might still have warranty . That would be one less worry . Have the boat surveyed if no damage then buying a boat for 25k is about half of what a new one might cost .

Af115 yamaha might be worth 3-5 k trailer another 2k so the hull with elec tronics 20k or so ? It all dependswhat shape they are in . and warranty or not ?
