C-Dory Sightings

Hey Peter,

Just read your post above from last week. Guess you were right in my neighborhood. Did you happen to see the 34 footer burn out in Burrows bay that morning? I was in the house when I heard the Coast Guard fly over, so I looked out the window to see where they were headed and was shocked to see this boat starting-up in flames. The boat burned for at least 40 minutes before the CG auxiliary boat approached close enough to pump water on the flames. I hadn't looked away for too long, but it was just long enough to miss the last remains finally sink. Kind of eerie looking out over the water and only seeing the boats that were there to assist.

We were to go boating that day... Some how we both felt that we would rather go another time. The good news is that the owner did escape.

No we missed all the excitement regarding the burning boat. We didn't get out there until about 5:00pm or so. So that's your neighborhood, very nice!

Don't give up Sam!! It only took me two years and four boat shows to convince my CFO!!! And she's been happy with "HER" decision ever since.
 
Thanks for the encouragement BNC. It has been about 2 years :cry and only 2 boat shows :disgust . I just keep plugging away. I showed her the C-Ranger in the water pic from the other thread. She walked away w/ no comment. I am thinking that it might take a few more years and boat shows. :amgry
 
On our way to Homer for a little camping and fishing saw a nice C-Dory Tomcat 255 sitting along Seward Highway in a pullout just before Girdwood with the black out curtains drawn. Pretty black trim behind a black GMC truck. My-Vette painted on side. Beautiful rig. Stopped to admire and then continue on to adventures. No one about to chat with. Must have been sleeping in preparation for adventures/fishing/camping on PWS.
 
My son Mike (20yrs) sent me a picture of the CD25 Lee Ann docked in Valdez, AK. Mike is on board the tanker Polar Adventure as of yesterday 5/16 as cadet observer (slave laborer, gofer, etc) and will be on board for 3 months while the Polar Adventure transports crude oil between Valdez and Ferndale, WA. He is a junior at New York's SUNY Maritime University and is working toward his third mates all oceans
CG license. He was selected by a board of officers to go as cadet observer instead of going trans Atlantic this summer on the school's training ship Empire State. Am I proud? You bet!!

If anyone can point me to or explain again how to include a photo in a post, I will follow up with the pic of the Lee Ann and of Mike in front of Polar's office in a subsequent post.
 
Once you post the pics in your album you can go to the picture and right click on it (Assuming a windows machine) and then click on Properties. If you are using IE you will want the Address and if you are using Firefox you want the Location. Copy that and then go to the reply window. In the reply window click the Img button and then paste in the link to the picture. Then click the Img button again. :)

OR you can do the following.

Last evening the family and I were just nosing onto our favorite nearby beach (south side of Piscataway Creek, past Fort Washington on the Potomac) when off in the distance we saw a familiar shape. It was Catleen, Steve H's 25. I leant a hand with his initial launch last year, but I'd yet to see it from the water. What a beauty! Steve had his ears on and answered my hail, but he was heading to Tim's Rivershore and we were just settling down for a picnic. Got to get together for a cruise soon!
 
Saw a really nice Green 25 in the South Sound headed to Penrose State Park..... the guy was kinda portly with a goofy look on his face.....hey that was me!!
Laurie is on the verge of thinking I have mad cow... just ask her about my thoughts on us and boats this weekend.

I am sure many of you in the NW have cruised thru La Conner and seen the grey 16' cruiser moored in downtown. Robbin and I had the pleasure of meeting the owners, Joe and Diane Carter. They own a couple of shops in La Conner, Champagne Cove and Cocomo Joes. We had a wonderful conversation with Diane and her daughter Saturday evening before they closed. I did mention the C Brat site and she was going to check it out. If you ever are in La Conner stop by, they are very nice people.
P.S. I bought a Tilly at Champagne Cove. So Brock I now have my own brag tags.
 
Good show, Fred. Indeed, that Tilley Hat was the final piece to your impressive marine wardrobe. The noggin top will only enhance my dockside outdoor clothing education, while witnessing your travel-savvy garment display down the catwalk.
 
I've been driving the Seward Hwy and seeing a number of 22s on the road. It's always nice to pass a C-dory on the road, I can spot them almost a mile away :P Anyways I wish all of you the best out there this season stay safe.

On my way to work this morning there was what looked like an older 22 Angler running easbound just north of the I90 floating Bridge. I was so wishing I could be out there fishing with them!
 
Wednesday, May 17- As the group was leaving Rio Vista on our way to the Duck Club in the Delta, we saw a 22' C-Dory anchored about a mile down stream from Rio Vista fishing. We honked and waved, the gentelman in the cockpit waved back. I did not see a name on the vessel.
 
I seen one!! Actually, I see quite a few around here, but this one was noteworthy. I was leaving the dock a little bit ago and yakking with a guy half way up the ramp when I spied a year-old CD22 motoring in. I took my junk back down to the boat and helped them get into a slip. The boat name is Olive Oyl, and they are a real neat couple from Bend, OR, who came up here for a weekend of fishing. They bought their boat at the 2005 SBS, but didn't get to the CBC. They have seen the site, and promise to join when they get back home.

The other day, I saw a CD22 trailering through Astoria that had RESEARCH in big letters on the side. I think it is the same one we see on the news once in a while up by Bonneville Dam playing with the sea lions. They were heading the opposite way, so I didn't run them down. One of these days someone needs to talk to them and get them signed up on here. They should have some interesting stories.

But for now, be watching for Olive Oyl to sign up.

I think that's a different boat. I spoke with the two researchers this week, at the Smith Point coffee shop in Astoria. They are from Washington State University, and have been on Youngs Bay (and Willapa Bay north of here in Washington), gathering and studying plankton and other critters low in the food chain. They have been anchored up, frequently, just south of the causeway the last month or so, doing plankton tows and stuff like that. Nice young folks: male grad student and an attractive female boat operator. Very willing to stop and explain what they are doing, and very knowledgeable about feeding habits of young salmon and shad (I guess shad smolts feed on these plankton things).

They launched at Tide Point, up Youngs Bay to the S of the old bridge, the day I spoke with them.
