C-Dory Sightings

I saw one of the 29 footers in Valdez this spring when I was there to pickup my new-to-me 22' cruiser. The boat was parked in the same lot. When I drove in the first time, I saw at a distance the 29 footer's familiar shaped bow sticking out from a pole barn and was briefly quite confused about how the 22' cruiser I was there to look at had such a large bow. I believe the 29 footer was called "Hunky Dory" and was told it had a single diesel.

Nigel, it was great seeing you and Miss Maria on lake Chelan Sunday! Since buying our C-Dory (Lil Teal) in October, we've fallen in love with everything C-Dory. My two kids (7 and 8 1/2) can now spot them from a quite distance.

Our "home" is puget sound, and we've spent a lot of time this year in the salt water. This was our first time in fresh water, and we felt a bit out of place amongst all of the jet skis and ski boats. Seeing a fellow C-Dory made our day!

Our brief chat on the VHF made for a great start to a wonderful cruise to Stehekin. Once there we had lunch, biked to the bakery for some dessert, and headed back that same day.

Just made it home. 8 days out and there were definitely a lot of ski boats even in the upper lake. My kids are in the same age range and we did a bit of hiking and a lot of swimming. We had a few docks to ourselves in the evenings, and when it got too crowded we hiked up a 1000 feet and watched the lake from the shade of the bitterbrush and scattered pines. We saw a few snakes (good and bad kinds), tons of bear sign, and had a cat chirp at us from the rocks above the dock at prince creek one evening. Probably singing along to Waylon and Willie. Don’t let the fast boats fool you, it’s wild country out here when the sun goes down! Come back in Fall and have it all to yourselves. Boat on lil Teal.

Dr. Bob, thanks for setting the record straight on the number of 29 footers built. It's clear I didn't do my homework on that one. But this much I'm sure of: spotted Al and Karen on Life of Riley, and Joan and Steve on C-Sharp at Sucia and Stuart Islands last week! And Roger on Sensei, just missed you--by a day.

Ahh ha, Life of Riley is getting around. Spotted it on the dock at Sequim Bay State Park, on of 6 boats on the dock, and 2 40 footers rafted no less. Had a great time with Al and Karen this afternoon, got some groceries, a ton of catching up and a pretty good, late breakfast.

Thanks, Steve (and Pat), for that Reid Harbor photo. I had such fun there with you folks! And I loved the walk to the lighthouse.
Harvey, I'm glad you could hook up with Al and Karen on their 2020 Salish journey. Tell 'em I said hi if you see them again.

Pennybridge, that was me and a buddy waving at you in your 23' Venture Saturday near the UW as you headed east through the Montlake Cut. I'm sure you had a dock full of other admirers as you explored the region that mostly sunny day.

Brock,

Is 'PennyBridge' Harold and Heather's 2018 C-Dory Venture that was sold to new owners? If so, glad that you saw her on the water being enjoyed. Thanks.

Gary.

I spied a blue 22 Cruiser on a trailer in a yard in Apalachicola Fl. last week. Could not see any name or more details without trespassing! Anyone know any Brats down there?

Just spotted a Cabernet with twin Honda 40's, traveling under full cover, going west between Sequim and PA, (and for those who don't love on the Olympic Peninsula, PA stands for Port Angeles.) No name that I could see, but the travel cover came down into the Shear stripe. Being towed by a nice big white pickup. Don't know what kind  too busy looking at the boat.

And then, there was another, 25 I think, black shear stripe at the Outboard Repair Mechanics shop half way between PA and Sequim.
