C-Dory prices

Pat, I don't see you getting much trade in on a 2000 hour Honda 150. I say go for the 200 HP now. (I wish I had that excuse of 2000 hours--I'm only in the 400's).

It's only money! Live is short! Your kids will squander what you leave them. (I have a dozen other excuses)...

Pat,

All I can tell you is how I feel having gone thru upgrading the Honda 150 to a Yamaha 200 on your sister baot (was named Anna Leigh).

As you know, my Honda 150 blew up and was totaled. However, the lower end still functioned, and I had 2 SS props. I am happy as hell to have the 200.....yes, it cost me a lot of money, but I am 100% convinced that a CD25 cruiser runs best with 200 horses compared to 150 (exception might be a very lighted loaded 25). Note this statement can only be made in the last few years once the lighter weight 200s became available. My 200 only weighs 4 pounds more than the 150 did. So I've never looked back, and feel very good about having done it.

Of course I had no choice, so that made it an easy decision. I also recommend that you do the switch now for another reason. The only thing I still feel bad about is that I had to junk that lower end. I still own those props which is completely non-productive. I tried to sell that stuff, but was unsuccessful. Finally the boat yard told me to "get that s**t out of here"; so it went to the junk yard. I would have felt much better had those servicable units been useful to someone (for any price). My assumption is that it will be far easier to sell a working outboard than pieces regardless of engine hours.

I know! It's amazing to think back at how bad the economy and real estate was doing back in 08, 09.

I was lucky that I didn't really lose much back then. I was in my late 20's and my career had just got going.

As to the C Dory prices: I think C Dorys hold their value very well BUT provided that you (the owner) maintains them nicely and adds some aftermarket items of value to the boat.

I broke even on most of my C Dory sales but that was only because I have a bad habit of OVERDOING the aftermarket mods. Lol. Sometimes less is more. It's a fine line.

That's great to hear that most folks think that C Dory's are holding their price. They are special boats to the right person.

I've been trying to sell my CD16 since last October of 2018 with nary a bite (except for skammers and lowballers).

Started at $16K with no interest. Have her now at $13K with little or no interest. Ads on this site, Craigslist, and boat trader have been fruitless. Lots of information and pictures in ad.

Wish I could figure out what I'm doing wrong...

Most anecdotal sales accounts are interesting. All are historical. The marketplace decides the price. Sometimes the best offer is the first one you get.

All the best going forward!
