C-brat flooded

I just received a facebook post from Jeremiah Johnson showing that the family farm is suffering some short term minor flooding. Seem the river, tide and wind got together and flooded their fields and home to some extent. I dont know how to transfer the pictures.

Let's all hope and pray that Roger, Lizabeth, and Jeremiah are all OK and that the damage to the farm and their home are minimal.

Yesterday was pretty wild on Camano and Whidbey Islands. The combination of a very high tide plus W/NW winds down the straits did a number on many roads particulalry along the West.
We took a walk at Fort Casey and I have added a photo entitled "nasty" to the kingfisher album (sorry I'm no good at linking)
The photo is taken from the Admiralty head lighthouse during gusts at 50Kt + and is looking across at Fort Worden (Port Townsed) at the start of the ebb tide against the wind. Those of you who are from up here know that the tide rips Northwards at up 3-4 Kts and there are two very nasty spots on either side of the inlet.

The waves in the picture are estimated at 15 ft + based on a medium sized Navy vessel that went through a few minutes earlier which was making bow splashes way over 2x the height of the bow. It was accompanied by one of the new fast USCG boats which was having no trouble other than disappearing in the troughs.

From the parking lot at the Coupeville ferry we watched huge rolling walls of water with breakers on top. Reminded me of the Columbia bar

Guess what. The ferry was not running :-) We didn't go out either.

Just added a second one taken looking directly down the Strait of Juan De Fuca. Street is appropriately named Whitecap Lane.

The red sign is where the parking lot ends and there is (probably was) a small boat ramp there. No-one launching that day.

Make your own estimate about the size of the waves and see the logs being tossed into the front of the house on the right.

Hello all
we are fine, we had some excitement and it could have been a lot worse than it was. we were very lucky that the tide went out fast and the levy was only cut a couple of ft deep. it was about ten ft wide and it let a lot of water into our property. at one time we had about 1 1/2 ft of water arround our house. it was definatly deeper than my boots.....lol....
once the tide went out and the ditches started draining we dried up fairly fast. By mid afternoon the water was gone from the house and we were able to get back in. Early that morning the fire dept had made us evacuate even tho I told them we had nothing to worry about once the tide went down but they were pretty insistant on us leaving.

thanks for the concerns
it means alot to us

I am glad all is well.
We lost a home to a flood (and major damage to a FL home from Hurricane Charlie) along with 100s of other home owners and a hard lesson on real estate investing.

You cant mess with Mother Nature

Roger SENSEI,

Glad you are all safe. Sorry, I have not been here very often lately so this is late, but had I known, you all would have been in my prayers earlier. Hope you got it all back together. What does that much salt water do to your fields? Give you a pre-salted potatoe, so you can get a better price for "Sea salted" organics

Roger, glad you and family are OK. Haven't responded earlier, have been out looking for a suitable iPad for our buddy Tom.

Merry Christmas to you, Janet and Family
