Yesterday was pretty wild on Camano and Whidbey Islands. The combination of a very high tide plus W/NW winds down the straits did a number on many roads particulalry along the West.
We took a walk at Fort Casey and I have added a photo entitled "nasty" to the kingfisher album (sorry I'm no good at linking)
The photo is taken from the Admiralty head lighthouse during gusts at 50Kt + and is looking across at Fort Worden (Port Townsed) at the start of the ebb tide against the wind. Those of you who are from up here know that the tide rips Northwards at up 3-4 Kts and there are two very nasty spots on either side of the inlet.
The waves in the picture are estimated at 15 ft + based on a medium sized Navy vessel that went through a few minutes earlier which was making bow splashes way over 2x the height of the bow. It was accompanied by one of the new fast USCG boats which was having no trouble other than disappearing in the troughs.
From the parking lot at the Coupeville ferry we watched huge rolling walls of water with breakers on top. Reminded me of the Columbia bar
Guess what. The ferry was not running

We didn't go out either.
