"It was the best $10 we ever spent! I’m talking about our lifetime National Park Senior Pass, available the US citizens or permanent residents the day they hit their 62nd birthday. You know that old adage about all good things coming to an end? The writing is on the wall for the $10 National Park Senior Pass. It’s not going away; it’s just getting a lot more expensive. The fee for the lifetime National Park Senior Pass will be going up to $80. If you want to take advantage of the $10 rate, buy your lifetime National Park Senior Pass now. When is the price going up? According to the National Park Service no date has yet been set, but it will be sometime after October. Don’t say we didn’t give you a lot of warning." See this link for more info.

I bought a second one as a backup in case I lose the original. Still, $80 for a lifetime pass ain't that bad a deal if you spend a lot of time in Uncle Sam's playground.

We did the same, with getting an extra pass. Wouldn't want to be without, and there are times when we are on scoots (recently went to Big Bend National Park) and the Ranger wanted to see two passes... other parks we've been through, one pass for two bikes was accepted.

This is easily the best deal in recreation! Our National Parks are a true treasure. The pass also is good in National Recreation Areas (Lake Powell), National Memorials (except Mt Rushmore, where it is a parking fee, not an entrance fee), National Wildlife Refuges (Laguna Atascosa - home to ocelots)... and will get you 1/2 off some of the camping facilities in those areas (the campgrounds not run by private vendors), even 1/2 price camping in BLM use areas.

Get 'em at this price while you can!

We both have have one, and use it frequently. Even the $80 is a bargain. I'll have to admit I lost my first one. I think it was free--but that was a few years back.

Roger, thanks for the heads up. Our national parks are jewels on the American landscape, and I'm happy to support them. They underscore how fortunate we are to live in this beautiful country.

Good Intel for sure, my 62nd birthday isn't until August so hopefully I'll be able to aquire the less expensive pass.
Last year I picked up to my lifetime Alaska Fishing /hunting /trapping license, I think it was free or just a couple bucks.

I bought one and keep it in my car. Didn't even think about taking it when we went to Hawaii this winter, so I paid a couple of entrance fees. Having a second one sounds like a great idea. I can get a second one at REI, my wife's favorite store.
