But Why Do They Call It "The Crab Palace"?

Fortunately for me, most seafood restaurants have chicken. At Pat and Patty's Crab Palace, we were served real beef! And wonderful friendship and conversation.

While the decor may be "crabby", the folks who live there aren't.

Take care you two and have BIG fun at Lake Powell.

Best wishes,
Jim & Joan

Jim got beef...but Joe and Ruth and Bill and El know sometimes the Crab Palace IS a seafood restaurant...today's lunch at the Crab Palace, about 20 minutes of digging at Birch Bay State Park! Joe is an especially big fan of my fried clams!

O.K. Pat, how do get those clams open and in half to fry them? Do you steam them first? Toni and I are in the San Juans for two weeks and we need new seafood recipes so we need details...please?

Pat,
I would love to know your recipe also. I have never seen fried clams on the half-shell. It really looks good. I just finished smoking salmon to take to Lake Powell for snacks and happy hours.

Yes, it really is complicated! Dig butter clams. Cut them in half with a big serrated knife. Dredge each half in Bisquick. Fry clam side down in the shell in about 1/4" of very hot oil in a cast iron skillet until golden brown. Salt liberally. That's it. Also, do NOT under any circumstances (Bryce Fiero, I am talking to you), delve into the anatomy of the clam, just pop the suckers in your mouth and enjoy!

Well, yeah, Jack - sort of like when you eat steamed clams or oysters I guess. Just perhaps tastier fixed this way!

Jack, Pocket Yacht looks a LOT like Crabby Lou...we love LaConner, have stayed in Jack Estep's Waterfront Condo and the Boat House (the one that looks like a boat, duh...) When we stayed in the Waterfront Condo, we tied Daydream up in front where the Patricia Anne is moored.

Hi Pat, :teeth You were just up the road from us about half a mile. We're in Shelter Bay right on the channel. Next time give us a call and we can meet at the "Tav" in town. I just put Pocket Yacht back on the trailer to check out a whining sound. :crook My crabbing is done for the year. Pat says we have enough to eat crab twice a week from now until next summer. :smilep
