This morning we met up with Brock (aka Catman) at Twin Bridges. Al and Karen (previous owners of 3 C-dory's and 1 Venture) were there, too. Brock was preparing to take his first journey in his 2017 23 Venture.

A beautiful boat and very well built. Ah, that smell of new fiberglass is awesome!

We're so pleased to have been a part of Brock's new adventure and share the moment with Al and Karen.

Safe travels, Brock. Thanks for sharing your happiness with us.

Ruth and Joe, I must have just missed you. I arrived at Twin Bridges just in time to witness the new boat's first splash ever! Brock was very excited as he very well should be. The boat is beautiful and she will have plenty of power with the brand new Honda 150 hung on the transom. I felt very lucky to have witnessed the beginning of the maiden voyage of one of our most popular Brats. Congratulations Brock and here's wishing you fair winds and calm seas!

Nice boat.

Is it just me or does the side window configuration (one long window) vs the 22 setup (two windows) make the 23 look smaller than it actually is?

At first glance at the second picture (with the dinghy) the boat looks much more like a 16, not a V23.

Congrats, Brock! We wish you all the best with your next chapter and LOTS of room! Beautiful boat!

Jim, Joan, and Izzy (you haven't met her, but we've told her about "the Catman")

Beautiful Blue Boat Brock. Congratulations and all the best wishes for new and continued aquatic adventures. Keep on Keeping on, stay safe, and enjoy.

It is always a pleasure to see you and I'm looking forward to more serendipitous sightings along the way.

Catman --
Congrats, although we wouldn't know it was Catman on that 'big' boat. Enjoy your cruising. We are on the shore of Lake Champlain now, thinking of the days cruising up the waterway.
Bon voyage, buddy! El and Bill

Congrats Brock. Great boat. Enjoy. Kerri On is underway on the Sunshine Coast. Pender Harbour for a while. Today not so sunny. Bring your new boat to Powell River Brock 👍

Now Brock COULD go fast if he wanted to, but my money is down on his going the same old usual Catman very comfortable cruising speed! What he has now is a bit more room and better sleeping arrangement (you had to have seen how he slept on Bambina to understand this!).

Brock, congratulations, by the smile on your face it looks like the long wait was worth it! It was great to see you at James island on Saturday...I'll get some of those running shots added soon...the boat looks great! Enjoy your maiden voyage and cruise north!

On speed, why is it most people know, almost exactly, how fast their boat goes
at WOT and when asked how fast their automobile goes, they probably say,
"I have no idea"?

Aye.

Speed limits.

Foggy, Most of us drive where there are speed limits on the roads. Probably most of us also run our boats where there is no speed limit on the water.

Most of us also have boats that only go 20-40 mph tops. This is well within the driving capability of the average operator, so you can go to the limit and be comfortable driving it there.

Even if you weren't limited by speed limits, traffic, obstacles, etc., the average car will go quite a bit faster than most people can handle it. So even if you had the opportunity (say at a track or a straight road in the middle of nowhere), you're more likely to scare yourself into quitting the attempt (or lose control) before you actually find out the top speed of your car.

The average car can also go faster than it's ability to stay in the road, although a similar thing can happen to a lot of boats.

To go 100mph in a boat takes a special design and/or lots and lots of HP. Pretty much any car can do it on about 90 hp.

Perhaps with the new boat comes a new Catman. Here's a photo from Saturday of Brock racing a Washington State Ferry with his new Honda 150! And another of Brock and his buddy Mark at James Island, early in their shakedown cruise on Saturday. More photos in my album
