I am getting ready to make an offer on a 2008 Tomcat. Couple of questions about C-Dory and the Tomcat:

I e-mailed C-Dory.com and the reply came from Sea Sport Boats, are they the owners of C-Dory now?

Is it safe to sling a fully loaded 255 Tomcat in and out of the water? I will be leaving the boat in a slip and need to get it out for servicing annually.

Many thanks for your reply.

Welcome to the club John!

This is my Tomcat in a sling for a late season power wash.

Good luck with the process. Fire away with any other questions.

WELCOME!

We store our 22 at Channel Islands Landing- along with several others.

I doubt that there will be any warantee from Sea Sport on a 2008 Tom Cat. So you need to get a good deal on the boat. There are also some changes on the most recent boats. Not sure what is on the 2008 you will be buying. The Tom Cats are great boats. One of my neighbors KEEPS his Tom Cat 24 in slings. I was relucatant to do that with the Tom Cat 255, but keep it on a lift with bunks which give as much support as a trailer.

Be sure and epoxy the bottom of the Tom Cat before you bottom paint it. Depending on the amount of time you put on the engines, you may haul the boat more or less than yearly. The lower units need to have the oil changed at 20 and 100 and then every 100 hours there after. I don't see any way to change the lower unit oil, other than to haul the boat. (a friend with a trailer would allow this however).

The Tom Cat is a great boat for S. Calif. But in the Channel Islands areas, you may want to run out in the early morning, before the wind kicks up.

I have had my Tom Cat slung in and out several times. One thing to be aware of is that with EZ Loader bunk trailers the boat rests on the bunks at the optimum sling points (where my marina guys want to put the slings, anyway) which means they have to lower the boat onto blocks (on the bunks), move the sling out of the way of the bunks, relift the boat slightly, and then remove the blocks. It is definitely more of a job. If the bunks were arranged differently the sling points would not be obstructed. I saw a TC near here that had "sling here" points painted fore and aft on each side. Nice idea!
