Brand new. Need help.

I am brand new to this website, and also brand new to C-Dory. I am considering buying a 16 Cruiser with 50 Honda. We will use it for light fishing. Inland lakes. High altitude. Speed not necessary. Maybe some overnight camping. Sounds like C-Brats are a friendly bunch of people. Looking for some on-water fun. Any comments on this boat? Please reply so I know I'm getting this done right. How will I know if anybody responds to my request? I did register.

Thanks!

Guy

You did it right. Welcome to the site. As far as comments on any of the C-Dory boats, there are so many, you probably haven't time in a week to read them all. There is a search feaure. Search for what you want info on. You will find threads on everything from anchoring to windlasses. In the Photo section there are pictures of modifications, layouts, etc. Look at the left side of a posting where the posting information is and you will usually see the boat name. If it is hi-lighted there is an album. It will usually also tell you what model the boat is. Click on that name and it will take you to the album. Or you can just start going through the albums themselves. There are presently 624 albums, many with multiple sub albums.

Guy,

I have no experience with either of the CD 16s, but do have a recommendation regarding engine. Since you're going to be using it at high altitude, ensure that you get a fuel injected version. It will make you much happier than a carburetor model.

Oh, and watch out, these boats, and the CBrats get addictive

Hi Guy! At the bottom left of this thread there is a little statement "Watch this topic for reply". Click on it and whenever someone replies you will get an email, if you entered an email address when filling out your profile. Anyway, some of us are on here all the time essentially (we're hooked). I usually start on the home page and go from there. The 16 cruiser with a 50hp Honda is a great combo. You'll be surprised what a great little boat it is. Welcome to the gang.

Hello Guy,

If you have not purchased a C-Dory by the second weekend in September, please consider attending the National Mississippi River C-Brat Gathering and Reunion in Guttenberg, Iowa.

There, you and yours can see, ride and maybe drive 16’s, 22’s and Doug England’s 26’.

It’s a great three day party in absolutely gorgeous surroundings, where your every question can be answered first hand.

Hope to see you there.

Best regards,

Ron, Connie, Bear & Dolly Fisher

Hi Guy, and Welcome. You are getting a good start. Filling in the profile helps to know things like what you might be looking at the boat for, (Interests like fishing or camping), where you might be using it,(Location, lakes, ocean, rivers), and experience, (captain, or new to boating, sailer, or power experience). the C-Brats are pretty much family here, and you may have neighbors that have one in the garage -- check the Brat Map at the top of the page.

The search system takes some getting used to, but keep them simple like 16 AND opinion, and you will have plenty to read for a while.

I haven't had a 16 C-Dory so have nothing specific to say, but there are a lot of folks here who have, and I think they will agree. The hardest part about using the 16 is getting it into the water. There are always dock watchers that will have a dozen questions for who ever owns that cute little boat.

Good hunting, and By the way, when they do come onto the market, they go quick --> hours to a day or so. Don't usually last very long, so know what you want and be ready to pull the trigger when you see it.

Welcome,

Harvey

Our first C-dory was a 16' and we loved it! It was great for two people and day cruising [at least as we used the boat]. A very seaworthy boat in the San Juan islands. We had a 50hp Yamaha on the transom and never had any issues. A full camperback made the boat even more useable. The only reason that we went for a bigger C-dory [TC24] was our desire to take longer trips and accomodate the grandkid.

We have seen a C Dory 16 cruising the San Juans and Gulf Islands, so it can be done. But I would think it is a little tight for more than a night or two. If you can have a "camp site" on shore for cooking etc, it would be a bit more comfortable on the 16. I would look at both the 19 and 22 before deciding. You will need a lower pitch prop for the higher elevations.

This only works sporadically. I don't rely on it.
