Boatless in Tucson

Desert Dory

New member
Hello All,

I’ve been lurking around your WONDERFUL forum here on and off for a couple of years now and can’t wait for the day when I can get my own C-Dory. Most likely have to wait until we move away from our current location of incredibly HOT, DRY, and WATERLESS, Tucson AZ. I pray for the day and I know it’s coming. Patience, patience.

Anyhow, the reason I came out of hiding was to post a link to this craigslist ad (I have no affiliation to this seller. I REALLY do live in Tucson. You can pray for me too if you’d like) which could be a great deal for someone in the SF Bay area who happens to be C-Doryless like myself.

That’s all for now (back into hiding)

Allen, Welcome aboard. There is great boating a few hours drive from where you live--Sea of Cortez, the various parts of the Colorado River--including Lake Powell, one of our favorites. That looks like a great deal on a C Dory for some one!

Arizona has some GREAT boating places, as Bob Austin says. Check out our website http://www.geocities.com/bill_fiero and scroll down on the left hand side to Arizona Arizona Nevada -- Lake Mojave, Lake Powell, Lake Mead -- and then the lower Colorado lakes. And you don't have to drain your water tank in the winter in Tucson!!

the forsale link is expired now, but if it was for the 22' c-dory in fairfield listed for about $8K, I called him right up. He was selling it for his Dad and had no idea what he had, but was already innundated with calls, including offers for $15K, sight unseen. So he said he was going to sell to best offer. $15K might still be a good price, but it was an older boat with a 2 stroke Johnson, so I was not as keen to rush off on a multi day trip at the new price.

Bob, Thanks for the welcome. Yes there are some great places around within a reasonable distance. Current obligations (kids, kid sports, work, etc) make it tough to justify having 30K to 40k worth of boat sitting on the side of the house when it will most likely get used only 2 or 3 weeks out of the year. Vacation time usually gets split between camping trips (2 tandem kayaks and a popup trailer) and skiing in CO. Once we get relocated (currently working on that) near some water, and weekend boat/camping trips are feasible, we’ll readdress the situation. We came to Tucson for the Sacramento area where we were very close to Folsom Lake. Had 2 stand up Jet Skies and a bass boat that I practically lived on. My wife knows that I have water in my blood and is very supportive of my “need’ to have a boat again but like I said, at this time in our lives a boat would spend a lot of time sitting and rotting in the sun. But, hey, you never know what might happen. If we’re stuck here for awhile longer and I can sell a property that we have in CO we may just become C-Brats anyway.

El and Bill, I live vicariously through you guys. I have read every page of the Halcyon Days web. Probably more that once. Welcome back, the canal cruise sounded like a blast.

Bartman, It was the Fairfield boat. Here’s the ad. Do you know if it was a cruiser or angler??? Just curious.

1987 22' C-Dory - $7950 (fairfield / vacaville)

Our son, Brad, and family, live in Tucson (you might have seen some pictures of Brad and his son, Bryce, in the Four on a Boat posting we made shortly after our return from Alaska this summer). We get down to Tucson to visit with them and perhaps we could meet for a lunch, or somesuch, and chat C-Dorys and boating in general.

El and Bill,
Now that you mention it, I do remember reading that they are here in Tucson. Where does your son Work? I work at Davis-Monthan AFB.

Also, I would LOVE to get together for lunch next time you’re in town. Give me a call or drop me an e-mail (I’ll PM the info to you).
