Boat Covers

I got ours from Angola Canvas in Indiana.

They have the C Dory patterns. Talk to them on the phone about adjustments like radar tower, bow rail, etc. Mine is made from a vinyl material they call "poly'. It is cheaper than sunbrella and, after 4 winters, is still like new.

We've had an Angola cover for our 22 for a couple of years now. It fits well, has held up good and they we very easy to work with. They sent material samples and delivered on time as promised
 
I just got off the phone with Angola, a Sunbrella cover for the 22 is $755, with seperate motor covers jumps it to $800. The warranty is now 10 years. Quite pricy but then again so is our investment in our boats!
 
An alternative is a 17 ft. x 23 ft Heavy Duty Canvas Tarpaulin from Harbour Freight, for $120. I've used a larger one for Journey On for 3 years now, and it's still holding up. Just fold it as needed, and tie it down loosely. Certainly doesn't look as good as a fitted cover but then it's 1/7 the price. Only come in canvas color.

Mine looks much like the one above this post. I looked to see if I have photos that show the cover from the stern -- no, but I would recommend that if you are ordering a cover that:
1. The cockpit and motor well get covered, otherwise you are cleaning leaves and stuff out of there and out of the bilge pump.
2. Separate covers for the motor heads, otherwise there will be a low spot between them and the motor well.
3. A zipper into the cockpit to ease entrance without having to untie the whole stern section of the cover. Should only need to untie maybe one side rope. (Makes it easier if you need to get into the boat for something.)

Hi Harvey- Nice cover and nice barn too. My cover does not cover the motor well, but, since I have the slanted mooring cover in place under it, there are no leaves collected in the cockpit. They do collect in the motor well, but I think the air circulation through the opening may be a good thing. I don't really know.

My 2 year old Sunbrella in the burgundy turned pink after the 2nd year outside. Yours looks great. My boat is set up like yours, same color, twins, so will be getting the seperate covers for the motors.
 
Real Sunbrella should not fade to pink. I would wonder if it is some other fabric? Although the Pacific Blue is probably the most "durable" color (has more UV resistance)--I have seen the reds, burgandy and yellows go 8 or more years without fade.

The $755 is quite a good price for a cover. I just paid about $350 for just console and seat cover for an 18' CC. The fabric was "Sunbrella Plus"--the waterproof material.

I thought it was strange too that it turned pink. It was made by Carvers and had Sunbrella on it. I'm wondering if it was a bad batch that did not get any UV protection. I spent quite a bit of time on the phone with Angola and am pleased with their response. They said it would take about 1 week to make and ship the cover, so that is the direction I am going, sounds like good people. When I ordered the old one I was basically talking to an operator and not the people who would actually do the work.
 
I agree with Dr. Bob. $755 is a good price for a Sunbrella custom cover. I paid more than that 5 years ago from IBoats - and at $810 then, it was the best price that I could find. Sunbrella has held up real well - forrest green. My cover gets lots of leaves and pine needles.

Marty, Thanks, The cover is mine, the barn is rented winter storage. Wish I would have just put that money into a winter storage shed at home, but that's hindsight, and I kept thinking that I would do that yet.

Good idea to have the transport cover on under the other one to keep the cockpit clean and still give some air circulation. I am thinking of adding a second cover that will affect the same purpose, (cockpit and engines), and be a separate piece.

My only complaint about the storage cover. It get pretty heavy when it gets wet, and it is hard to handle by myself.

I have tried to contact King numerous times and nobody there has responded.

so I went east. Angola seems fairly reasonable. They recommended what I believe is called Aqualon for water proofness. $710 for a 22' cruiser, $40 for the 90hp motor and $26 for the 9.9. built and shipped within about 2 weeks.

I haven't ordered it yet but I think this is how I will go. boat will be exposed to the elements for probably 1/2 the year, under this cover, and in the barn 1/2 the year.

I have a 22 with no covers at all and live about 60 miles from Angola.

I'm not positive on this, but maybe something to check before ordering (depending on your storage conditions). That is that I think the Aqualon is best for shedding snow and perhaps rain, but is not so breathable. Sunbrella will shed a fair bit of rain but also breathe (although it is somewhat prone to chafe), and I think Angola's lower cost "poly" fabric will also shed water to some extent as well as breathe. If you store outside in winter and have snow, then perhaps the more waterproof Aqualon would be more suitable (and one can have vents put in).
 
I know I've said this before. I had an Angola 'poly' cover for our 16 cruiser which was stored outside. I couldn't have been happier with it's price, fit, or protection. After about 5 years of use it went with the boat when we sold it and was as good as new.
