OK, now you're just going to make me get all mushy and totally blow my macho image. Joan and I tend to keep to ourselves... not hermits, mind you, but we still enjoy our time together even after all these years (we were high school sweethearts). Dave could not have been nicer nor done more - what a genuinely swell guy. We just wanted to adopt him and take him with us. We sure never intended anyone to "host" us on this trip. His suggestion of visiting the Southern Sound first turned out to be just what we needed: the marina was great, and it was quiet enough that we were able to start getting comfortable with the boat without a bunch of traffic or weather to deal with. Perfect! The last few months have been hectic for us, and this was the first chance we've had to kick back.
Thank you Dave and Teri for treating us like old friends. Meeting you was certainly a highlight in this "discovery" trip. New boat, new cruising grounds, and some major life changes in the last few months... all for the good. This forum and the folks on it have made us feel most welcome... and Dave must certainly be the chairman of the Welcoming Committee.
Our sincere thanks,
Jim and Joan Bathurst
And then to top off our day: when we got to the factory, I went to Jill's office to get our registration paperwork. She said, "I have a package for you. The lady who sent it wanted us to put it in your boat before you picked it up, but it just got here." It was an autographed copy of "River Horse", sent by a sailing friend of ours. It was on my to-read list, but free time has been a rare commodity the last six months. Really choked me up.
We have been dealing with Troy today at the factory, getting set up for our service tomorrow. Another real gentleman. "Service" is a word that gets tossed around a lot, but few companies follow through on. I am impressed.
And one other highlight: this was the first time we've pulled the boat out by ourselves (did it once before on the one-hour test with Scott). The ramp at Swantown is nice and it couldn't have gone easier... and you shoulda seen me pull the boat up to that dock (it's two blocks long and a straight shot :wink )
