Are Used C-Dory's Overpriced?

While cruising this summer on the Mississippi I saw a 27' CDory. It appears to be in good shape, but I understand the owner is having some trouble with it. I have been following CDory's for the last three years and have never seen a CDory like it. I fell in love with it because it had a huge open area behind the cabin. All the lines are just like the 22'. It's an inboard also..... I would love to buy it ....I'm not sure even if its for sale at this time, but I have contacted the Marina to let the owner know if he ever wants to sell it to get in touch with me. My problem ..other than the boat is not for sale ...is how much is the darn thing worth. You can tell its an older boat because the finish is dull and it's got old electronics. I contacted CDory and they can't give me any information on the boat. It was made by the previous owners of CDory's. They did say that there was very few of them made, and that they were all custom made.....Is there anybody out there that knows anything about this model of CDory?????

splitshot,
There is one just like it in the harbor in Homer, Alaska. Actually there are others up here including one built as a bow picker, cabin in the back & open in the front, including several with outboards on them.
Look on the right side of the transom for the serial number. It will tell you the series number as well as the build date. It was probably built in 1981 or 1982. No. will start out MFNxxxx.
There are several guys on this site that have them and have upgraded them considerably.
Hope this helps.

It scares me what they might want for a boat like that...even with it's age... does any of your buddies know what a 27' will bring. I'm a school teacher and I really don't want to get my hopes up if the price is going to be out of my range. If I had and idea of the cost I would know if I should really pursue the situation... What kind of engines did they put in them? This one is an inboard...

HOOKED ON HULLS

Alvig bought a 27 ft Pilothouse a couple of years back that was up in Gig Harbor. Had a Volvo I/O drive on it. Asking price at that time was $32,000. You might as him about it and his experiences with it.

Is this boat an inboard or an inboard/outboard? Is the engine gas or diesel--and what is the HP (or at least how many cyl and what make?)

It is very difficult to know what these boats will sell for. Remember that there were some changes to the C Dory hull in the late 1980's, so this is probably one of the older hulls. But I think that the 27's are really great boats!

Better yet, read about it here! This is one of the most entertaining tales on the board! And the guy is still able to have a sense of humor about it all!
