Hopefully, Mark from Werfings will see this post and reply---but information from all you C-Brats would be much appreciated. Planning to spend Feb,2012 on Florida Gulf coast, probably without the boat. What's the weather like in the Apalachicola,Eastport area in February and how is the fishing that time of the year??? Need information fast---will be picking a spot and booking reservations soon.

Thanks

Caw

A lot warmer than Idaho. :D The Water Street Hotel is nice a bit pricey but very comfortable, pool etc. Mark will have to chime in on the fishing or Dr. Bob. Why not send them a PM? But there is always good food and always something to fish for in that area. Mark rents boats if you are so inclined but be careful he sells them too!

I see it !
Fishing in Feb can be good for big Redfish , speckled trout is closed for the month of Feb. I usually go for Hybrid or striped bass up the rivers and Sheephead [both fine table fare] . Usually blows from the north if its blowing and the rivers are protected . Still a day fishing [even in the wind] is an improvement over a day working .It can also be mild ,Its Florida ! We do have rental boats , and just running around the islands, bays and Intracoastal is pretty fun . I could see a C Brat discount happening if someone is interested .Also some technique sharing for fishing.
We cant hardly keep track of the offshore regulations without an on board fisheries attorney anymore, but Gag Grouper [if they reopen the fishery] in winter is good trolling and jigging about 10 or less miles out on structure. There are other bottom dwellers to catch as well .
The Water Street Hotel is great ,very nice. The Gibson Inn is historic ,walking distance from down town and most importantly ,has a bar.The Best Western is just a good clean place just a little out of the historic district .The Apalachicola River Inn is another option with a very "local' bar and a couple restaurants . Also easy walking to downtown and the marina The beach at St George is usually just populated by a few snowbirds and is really nice .
There is a bit of local knowledge

Here's a link to the weather: http://www.climate-zone.com/climate/uni ... lachicola/

Marc can (and has) told you all about the fishing; and while his lovely wife heads up the local Chamber of Commerce, Marc is also a great source for "local information."

Getting away is often about the contrasts: get away from the winter weather or the summer heat. Apalachicola isn't just "Florida"... go there and set your watch back 20 years. Nice ambiance.

Hey, I have a marginal wi fi signal in Cherokee NC (the kids are at "Santa Land"! Marc is the expert, but weather is an issue. This is the Gulf Coast in winter. There can be freezes (usually not as bad as in Dec or Jan). There are Northers, which make any offshore fishing very difficult if not dangerous. The offshore winds can even make the bays rough. As you go offshore, the seas increase, and even larger boats stay in port.

We tend to go to the Keys this time of the year--in one of the more out of the way places, because of the cold. Days generally are in the 50's to 60's and nights in the 40's--some low 30's and occasionally down to teens.
