Anna Leigh has been sold

Thursday I had a couple walk into my driveway when they noticed the For Sale sign on the window of the 25. Was thinking about a 22. No, I told him this was a 25. He is 6' 1". showed he and his wife the boat, talked about the differences in the 22 vs the 25. I give him the address of the C-Brats, who he didn't know existed. They went home (1/2 mile or so away) to talk. Next morning he is back to look some more. It is a nice day, so we go out for a boatride. He wants to see how the heck I can launch and retrieve by myself. (We have no dock, just a concrete ramp). So I show him. We go for a ride. I beach the boat, back the trailer onto the ramp, power onto the roller trailer and secure it.

Saturday late morning they are back with a checkbook.

Sandy and Kathy are now the proud owners of a 25.

Well Sandy and Kathy got one of the best 25 going. Hope to see them around here and we'll be looking forward to seeing you too, on the 16 or ???

Hi, this is Sandy McKean......the very proud new owner of Anna Leigh.

As David points out, the coincidence of he and I living just a half a mile from each other on this small island is down right amazing. My wife and I were on a walk on the quiet island roads, as we often do, but we just happened to walk in the opposite of our usual direction. From the south one looks right into David's garage that is Anna Leigh's dry land home. A glint of red caught my eye. Ah, that is a FOR SALE sign! Is that a C-Dory 22?? I think so. I knocks on the door, and the door is opened by one of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet. In spite of 4 years of part time living on this island, David and I had never met before (my wife, Kathy, and I are now permanent Guemes residents since last June).

I didn't recognize the name C-Brats when David first mentioned it to me, but I now realize that I had been on the website before (maybe a year or more ago when I first narrowed my dream list down to C-Dorys, SeaSports, Parkers, and Arimas). I hadn't planned to actually buy a boat until this summer at the earliest, so I hadn't done the detailed research as yet.

Over the last couple of years, talking to my boating friends (who, to a man, were extremely positive about C-Dorys), they advised me that I would have trouble launching/retrieving anything larger than a 22 single handed from the limited launch facilities on this island. Being totally self-sufficient was a "must-have" for me. I really liked the layouts I saw on 24 footers etc, but I figured 22' was pushing it to launch single-handed. Well, David has designed a process that makes launching the Anna Leigh a snap. (It probably won't surprise you who know David that he has it down to a science!)

OMG, am I pleased that I ran into him. The 25 is exactly what I really wanted, I just didn't know it until I saw David hopping around on his King trailer customized to make a single-handed launch completely practical.

Needless to say, I am thrilled to own the Anna Leigh (yes, at some point her name will change). David's workmanship has created my dream boat in reality!!!! I am looking forward to jawing with you all, and of course even meeting some of you, as the years unfold.

HI Sandy, AND Welcome. You are right, David would have it down to a science. I single a 22 all the time and it is easy, (although I have not attempted a beach launch yet). Come on out to Friday Harbor and you can meet a major portion of the (at least), PNW Brats and see all the variations of C-Dory. You will love that 25 and what it will do for you.

You now have the record for being the second shortest distance sale listed on the C-Brats.

Great to have you here.

Hi Sandy. Welcome aboard! Great boat. David is very knowledgeable and a great guy. Congratulations. One of those "fork in the road" happenings and you did well to "take it". We look forward to meeting you down the road. Do plan on coming to Friday Harbour gathering and usually there is a rechristening ceremony held. Lots of fun and meet some great folks. George

Congratulations and welcome to the family Sandy and Kathy. Not sure if David clarified this point. You didn't buy just a C-Dory, and a premier 25 at that, but you also got a very large, extended, and militant family. A lifetime of new memories and adventures await.

Congratulations, Sandy and Kathy. As you've heard, and your eyeballs verified, you own a very nice example of a C-Dory 25. It's a very capable boat, and I'm sure will give you lots of great adventures here in the PNW.

David and Kate, congrats to you two for finding the boat a new home. The four of you get to experience one of those "two happiest days."

So, David, what's next?

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Congratulations Kathy and Sandy, welcome to the club. Might be one of the most expensive walks you will ever take, but you really lucked in on that boat. David gave me a tour when he visited Comox in 2012.
Look forward to meeting up with you at Friday Harbor in May.

Martin.

We are all signed up for the 5/16+ event at Friday Harbor, so we will meet you all there. The boat will be the same, but the skipper will be a lot dumber .

Yes, I realized the "family" we've joined even before we bought the Anna Leigh! Once David reminded me of this website, I was all over it in the 2 days before purchase. It rapidly became clear to me that I'd be joining a real community. That appeals to me very much.

I suspect David got the better of the 2 types of the boater's happiest days! Given the "hole in water into which....." syndrome, the loud "Whew" uttered by David last Saturday could be heard all over this island!

And to the rest of you......thanks much for the warm welcome. See you in May!! I'll be the one with my head in some compartment exclaiming: "Now where the hell do you suppose he keeps that #%$@$#% thing??"
