Angola Canvas--Great service and product

I called Angola Canvas, based on recommendations of the C Brats who have used them. They quoted me an unbelievable price (the first one was just the cost of the Sunbrella--and I said they better check their figures!). The actual price was just over $800 with shipping for a very nice full mooring cover. I was told it would ship in 10 days.

I had the cover in 10 days! It had great workmanship, fits perfectly and very good reinforcement over potential wear areas.

I ordered mine 2 years ago from them, 830 including shipping and 2 engine covers, it showed up on my door within 5 days, the fit and finish are great, I have had many comments from boaters on how nice the fit is. Obviously they are holding their price since I know the cost of Sunbrella has increased since then.

Dr. Bob,

I fully agree this is a superior product from a superior company. I have had my cover for two years and it is as good as new. I chose a different material at the suggestion of Angola due to the fact that we have 100 to 130 inches of snow. The material "aqualon" I believe is said to stretch less than Sunbrella...and it doesn't stretch. It was also somewhat less expensive. The downside is that it doesn't breathe so would not be good for a hot humid climate.

Our boat has an arch which required cutouts and zippers on each side so the arch could fit through. It fits great (I just had to send some measurements) and was only $875 in Sunbrella with the arch modification.

The local company which also seems popular with the brats quoted a base price of $1300 without factoring in the modification.

Excellent company!

The deck house is very similar on the Tom Cat to the C Dory 25, which they have two patterns for. I suspect that they could make a cover, with some photographs and direct measurements. But it would require a pattern to be made.

I believe that part of the reason that their prices are low, is that they had patterns. To make the pattern is very time consuming. For example on my Tom Cat camper canvas, the canvas man spent as much time fitting as he did sewing.

I also checked out Angola canvas but they do not have a pattern listed for a 1985 22' Classic Angler that is why i will attempt to fabricate one myself in the Spring. Tug

We're on our second winter w/ the Angola Sunbrella cover. It's holding up well, although it is somewhat...uh...greener than when we first got it. :x The water repellency is also wearing out on the horizontal surfaces, although the vertical surfaces still repel water.

It will need a good cleaning come spring and then a new coating of water proofing [sprayed on]. Being so large I plan on just using my power washer and then a garden sprayer w/ the water repellent.

I like to wash Sunbrella every year or so, and then apply 303 for Fabric. The use of waxed sealants or material like Thompson's water seal is only of much use at the end of the life of the fabric--should be close to 10 years.

Some covers you can put in the washing machine--others a good scrub brush. 303 also makes a fabric cleaner which is recommended for Sunbrella.

I would be very careful with a pressure washer on a boat cover. It would be very easy to tear the seams, or if there are weak areas, to open them up.

We use the 303 fabric cleaner followed by the 303 water repellent. They do a good job. The water repellent works like a charm. Our sunbrella is about ten years old and still looks good. Hoping to get another couple of years before replacement.

My plan is this:
Wet material
Mix Woolite w/ cold water
Brush dirty areas w/ soft brush & above
Mix cold water, Woolite and bleach
Brush stubborn "green" areas w/ soft brush & above
Rinse w/ power washer
Let dry
Apply 303 spray to saturation using garden sprayer.

It's just too much material for any washing macine and I think spraying on the 303 while it's on the boat is the only way to do it. I'll use some cheap plastic sheeting underneath so the spray doesn't damage the gel coat.

We just received our mooring cover for our CD22 from Angola Canvas and it fits perfectly. Very good workmanship and price. Thanks to the C-Brats for their recomendation.
