I put a radar arch on last year and never did move my anchor light. I need to do that this year. The radar arch has a piece of tubing coming off the aft side of aft cross bar that looks like that's the intended mount point for the anchor light. In brief, there's a 2" or so long stub of tubing that has a thumb screw off to the side. So if I can find an anchor light on the correct diameter tubing (looks like about 3/4"), I could bend the tubing at a little less than 90 degrees and insert it into the protrusion from the radar arch and tighten down on the thumb screw. However, all the anchor lights I see in West Marine seem to come with a fitting on the end and don't look like they have excess wire on the inside. So, what do I buy? My thought was I could get an anchor light on a post with a connector built in and simply use a tubing cutter to cut back a few inches (leaving me with a few inches of wiring left over). What have others done for this problem?

Hi Roger,

From your description of the mount point, I am not sure you can do what I did, but it's pretty simple. I have a factory mount that I put on the second year I had the boat. At the aft end of the arch, there is a loop of tube with a plate across it that is drilled for the same Perko mount that is at the eyebrow of the cabin. The folks at Sportcraft found and ordered me a second mount base. As I had already pulled wires, all I had to do was hook it up at the switch and arch. I use the same light for either position.

If you can not do this, I recommend stopping buy a good dealership (Les at EQ or equivalent) and going through their catalogs. There are many more solutions/options out there than are shown in the WM catalog.

Good luck!!

Roger I think you need the tube in my picture. (You can't have mine). The mount is a Sea Scan and it came with the pedestal. Bet if you call/e-mail them, they'd sell you just the tube. It's aluminum, about 3/4"

I've got a GPS on mine, the anchor light is in the original position aft on the cabin top of the TC.

Charlie, how do you like that spotlight you've got mounted there? What make and model is it? Does the beam bounce off your bow rail or other parts of the boat? That was a concern that I read about in other spotlight threads.

The anchor light tube you have is quite similar to mine, but I suspect you have an LED light, yes? Mine is an oblong cylinder, non-LED. I modified my tube to allow me to rotate it down 90 or 180 degrees so as to reduce the clearnance the boat requires when on the trailer.

Warren, the light is a "go light", remote with a wired control, not wireless. It's on a little platform integral with the radar strut mount. I like it. I find that while it does hit the bow rail, it's unobtrusive since the rail is round and doesn't reflect directly back. It's so bright that I focus on things in the distance. If I have a problem, I'll put some black pipe insulation on the rail.

The anchor light is the original one, I don't think it's an LED model, never looked. We don.t do many overnights. It's on the back of the cabin top, a GPS is on the top of the tube aft of the radome (4KW). No problems with any interference.

Hi Roger,

My radar arch came with that same stub of tubing but also had a curved piece of tubing that attached to the stub with the screw. It did not have a light on top. I just adapted an led anchor light to the top after pulling the wires.

You should be able to get a curved piece of tubing from any rail fab shop. Then you just need to select an anchor light and attach it to the top.

Good Luck,
Steve
