Amazing Sea Lion Migration Video - Tom Cat Maiden Voyage

Great video. I have never seen this many at sea--but I suspect that they are following a food supply. (either that of some of the politics of San Francisco has them on the move). There are usually large herds around Santa Barbara Island.

Great Video -- what an experience. Did you run across them? Did they intersect your line of travel? Were you sitting, drifting or anchored and they came toward you, like all around? Curious for more story behind the story.

Fish on, arrrrg sea lion on!

Time to go fishing elsewhere.

I have been chased out of the water while surfing by a pack of them. Those snarling fangs take deep bites out fish I would hate to think of them biting on me.

They can be aggressive. When I surf an offshore point I have to sometimes paddle by groups of them circled up. They are so busy they ignore us but it is still spooky paddling by them. I guess if I was doing what they were doing I wouldn't care about the surfer paddling by.

It reminds me of the time I was riding the motorcycle thru Yellowstone and I got completely surrounded by buffalo. Revving the engine was just chow call. Scarry!

I remember reading a report about that pack that sits on Pier 39 in San Francisco. One reached up and ripped the arm off a person on a boat tied to the dock a couple years ago.

Heh, I think we interesected their line of travel. We had just throttled down, still doing the engine breakin procedure. What you hear at the start of the video is me asking Mom (Capt) if the engines were off. She said "Yes" I said "good".

It was crazy, I have never seen anything like it . . .

Showed the vid to a number of people . . .

They all had no good things to say about these animals. They feel these animals are to blame for the bad salmon and crab season here in California and the rest of the West Coast.

They may be right, they believe what they believe.

I still don't know what I believe.

There were also alot of "short porpoises" . . . very cool . . .
