advice needed

We really miss being part of the Brats community, particularly to obtain advice. In desperation, I am checking with the Brats to help trouble shoot our problem:
We sold our C-Dory and bought a 24 ft Skagit Orca, which we like. We have a problem with the sliding glass door, made per Diamond Sea Glaze in BC. The plastic screw cover track at the base of the door fell apart, and we can't get a replacement part from Diamond Sea Glaze. Their Customer Service Dept never returns calls and the catalog doesn't show give measurements for the track covers they carry.
We have extreme problems getting the door to slide open and shut, which definitely affects our boating experience!
We tried contacting NMI boats, but they don't have records from building the Skagit Orca, lost in the fire at the plant. No one has a clue what part to order.
Would you recommend just tearing out the door and replacing it with a regular door like the Dory or Sea Sport? This will cost a lot of money. Any other suggestions to rig something up to allow the door to slide?
This is an inexpensive part, we just can't get an order number or someone at Diamond Sea Glaze/Advantec Store to help.
We would be grateful for any suggestions.
Thanks,
Tara

Tara, Sorry I can't help, but that is pretty disconcerting news about Diamond Seaglaze. From what I have seen, they have been responsive before.

I'd try to keep that sliding door if at all possible. That is a feature that I wish our C-dory had.

If it was me, I would remove the track and take it to a DSG distributor or I might even drive up to Langley BC myself with the part in hand and get a replacement.

I know its a PITA but that's what I would do.

Hello Tara,

Can you fabricate a new bottom sliding track using Starboard type material? It comes in a UV resistent form which will last much longer than the standard Starboard.

If you posted pics of the problem area maybe we could give further suggestions.

When I called them, I did get an answer and the part I needed, so something's changed.

For a couple of thoughts, here's a link to their Corporate Description with a phone # but also some e-mail addresses. Also here's a web site for some Seaglaze replacement parts . Since I recently reworked the head door latch, I can say that those parts look like the parts used on C-Dorys.

I wonder why MWI didn't comment on Seaglaze. I assume they're still using Seaglaze as a supplier, and even still building Orca boats.

It's unlikely that they produced the plastic track in house. It is likely still available somewhere. It sounds like it's time to review the catalogs of Taco, Outwater, Global Industries, Grainger, etc., etc. Take pictures and measurements and send them off. Once in a while I find somebody who not only knows their own inventory but also knows the inventory of their competitors (and will provide the information). It's a pain, but it's also possible that you will find a more seaworthy material.

I think they switched from Seaglaze. I remember somebody mentioning needing screens and the windows were no longer Seaglaze on the new boats.
