A simple opinion

Okay, I haven't posted anything on the site for awhile and I thought it was time. We are well into our new adventure with C-Dory and things are going quite well. We have put out several C-Dory boats, one Orca is almost done and a Tom Cat will follow shortly. We are not blasting through the learning curve, but cautiously and methodically moving through it...so far so good. However, I'm going to go out on a limb and pose a question to the group to get some feedback. It's not a big issue, but I noticed that boats from the old regime have the "C-Dory" logo in the seats. We have not incorporated this feature and although it is obviously just a cosmetic question I wanted to know what people thought. We try to look at every feature no matter how small and determine how significant it is. The little items do add up time and we want to keep our boats affordable. Let me know...big deal? little deal? who cares? I realize that it's risky asking an opinion to any group larger than about two.

Jeff,

Your attention to detail is laudable, but in this case I (personally) would not be bothered if the embroidery logo is deleted.

I have no strong feelings either way.

Thanks for asking our opinions, Jeff.

I would prefer really comfortable seats with good foam over pretty with the logo. Having said that, the logo on the seats is appealing. So, comfortable and a logo would be even MORE appealing.

Not much help, huh?

REALLY glad to hear you are producing new C-Dorys! :thup

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Hi Jeff,

I appreciate your apprehension for asking and I hope my following analogy makes a point.

I have ridden motorcycles now for 53 years and have never had one run better or faster by adding chrome.

My vote is for comfort and durability, not really important to me if it is even a "c-dory" seat as long as the boat itself is! Great to hear from you.

I've played on boats for most of the last 40 years, and though there have been times I've cursed manufacturers for skimping here or there, I've never cursed the lack of a logo.

Quality construction materials, skilled labor, proper fit and finish, appropriate use of marine grade hardware throughout -- and at an affordable price point. These are what brought me to C-Dory. If I had to choose between an emboidered logo and a higher grade foam or fabric it wouldn't be close. As you indicate, the little things are important, and they need to be paid for. So... if I were making the trade-off...

Matt

I think quality is not necessarily indicated by a logo. As previously stated, good foam or support is more important than a logo, especially if it is an either/or situation. The cleats, hatch, and windows don't say C-Dory, but they function well and are quality products. Hope you have success with the C-Dory product line, and continue to make improvements along the way. Ron

Having had to rebuild and restuff a seat in order to save my better side from further harm, I would spend any money and time on a better PREFORMING seat. I don't have the c-dory logo and don't see a need for one on the seats.

Jeff,

I don't think my CD 22 has a logo on the captain's seat. I will however add my voice to those who are requesting a more comfortable seat. We use our boat more for fishing than for cruising, so the issue didn't come up until the Lake Powell trip this year. Some of the legs of our trip were six or more hours of putting, and I thought that my butt was going to fall off when I tried to get up after a long time at the helm.

Before I forget it, THANK YOU for asking.

Steve

Well, there you go! "The seat has a logo on it?!" We echo Bill, it really doesn't matter at all. And to echo others, we know you and Scott and the whole crew are maniacs about attention to detail. "Blasting through the learning curve" hopefully died with the end of the Tom Latham era (sorry guys, you know I can't help myself!) .

Now my question to you, Jeff - is the logo on the outside going to say "C-Dory" with "Wright Brothers, Bellingham, WA" underneath it or what?

For us the logo is unimportant - didn't even know it had one.

You restuffed the seat to save Susan's butt????

Jeff,

Good to see you here. Thanks for asking. It shows you are keeping true to what you told us at your visit to the Bellingham CBGT, That you were wanting to do a quality product that continued to appeal to discerning boaters.

My vote, I'd rather have a good, sturdy, quality, comfortable seat, :thup than a pretty one.

I for one like the embroidered logo - I think its a nice touch. Would be willing to forego it if you could find a fix for the *#$ leaky cockpit hatches in the CD 25's.

There should be a logo somewhere inside the boat. It is a matter of Brand Identity, and I think it is important for people to know what brand of boat it is from the inside in addition to the outside. It doesn't have to be embroidered into the seats although to me it is a classy touch and I'm glad my boat has it. To save expense, I suppose a placard on the dashboard would suffice, but not a decal. There should be an elegance to it and the embroidery certainly provides that.

How about wood helm hubs, there is a supplier near Anacortes. Many of us have upgraded from the plastic one. You could stamp a logo on that.

Thanks very much for asking for our opinions. I could care less about the logo but replaced the helm seat because it was poorly padded and my skinny butt suffered. I vote for no logo and better seats!

Jeff,
I already replied to the seat question. Just wanted to point out the obvious. From all the replies to your' query so far and many more to come in short order, I'm sure it is obvious how appreciative we are to have dialogue with you. We bought a 2009 Fluid boat from Sportcraft Marina, so I'am one of those that paid for a warranty that is gone. I can live with that. My point is, most important of all, is that for us a group to rally behind S. Sport, we need to feel like the communication and input is a two way street. Your' question, in my mind, seems to show an understanding of that. My suggestion to you would be to be a more frequent voice here. I believe C-dory is in good hands.
