A predicted disturbance in the force...

Can you feel it coming? Is something wrong? Does your experience on the site seem just a bit different than it used to?

I project that a major "disturbance in the force" will occur around August 25th. Guess what will occur on or about that date if current trends continue on the C-Brat site. A free bottle of wine to the one with the first correct answer as to what this major event could be. I'll provide some hints later if no one guesses correctly...

Well, August 25th is "Kiss and Make-up Day", the third week in August is "Thanks for all the gifts week", and the entire month of August is both National Data Entry month and International Breastfeeding month, but somehow I don't think any of those are part of the "disturbance."

Could it be the fact that 40% of the newest messages this morning have nothing to do with C-Dorys? No, the Brat site has seen worse and still survived with the "Just Be Nice" rule.

Could it be that SeaBrat.com plays a bigger role at C-Brat.com when a new, improved (?) C-Dory line is announced? Possible, but not a major disturbance.

Let me ask this question, Roger. Is the National Marine Fisheries Service involved?

Well, the second two numbers in each string, 2.46 and 2.40 are the total % of posts that Seawolf Joe and Thataway have. Looking for the first two...3.67 and 3.59

Charlie

Well, I got that mixed up...

Seawolf Joe

5080
[3.67% of total / 2.46 posts per day]

Thataway

4961
[3.59% of total / 2.40 posts per day]

They're the numbers of our two top posters!!

I would guess that Dr. Bob will hit 5000 by then too, if he can find enough internet access in AK!

Charlie

Getting warmer... the first number in each string is indeed the number of posts/day that Seawolf Joe and Thataway Bob have averaged since joining. Now if you can figure out or guess what the second two numbers are, you're there.

I obviously don't have enough to do here in the office...

The second numbers are, if they are the average # of posts per day between now and 25 August for each of our top two posters, will have Thataway eclipsing Seawolf Joe in total number of posts on or about 25 August.

E.G. If Joe averages 1.59 per day between now and then, he'll have about 5175 posts. If Bob averages 3.68 per day, by then he'll just pass Joe.

Unlikely IMHO because of Bob's limited internet access on his trip. Unless of course Joe disappears again for a month or so like he did last year!

Charlie

OK - Charlie's close enough to be declared the winner (PM me your address and I'll send a bottle of wine).

The second numbers in the number pairs are the average number of posts by Joe and Bob between Jan 1 and June 28th of this year. So, if that trend continues, Bob will pass Joe in total number of posts on our about August 25th. Interestingly, Pat has been averaging about 3 posts/day so far this year and if the trends continue, he would also pass Joe back up in about 188 days (e.g. on or about Jan 2nd of next year).

Neither Pat nor Bob have increased their rate of posting but Joe has decreased his tremendously. So, maybe Joe has a girlfriend? Maybe Joe has carpal-tunnel syndrome? Maybe the cat's got his mouse (on the computer I mean)? Who knows....

Actually, I've been running a small business out of my home since the beginning of February, and the time just isn't there to keep up the pace!

Joe. :teeth :thup

However, shortly after Bill gets the Twitter Tracker thread set up we can expect to see the race for most posts a runaway showdown between Charlie and Pat.

What is the meaning of letting work interfer with the sport of posting?

Shame on you.....hire a helper and get back to maintaining your standing in the league. Those of us that have money riding on you deserve better.

Exactly. Some (Lucky) people even get to post while they are on their boat catching fish. The they even show us pictures!!
That is cruel and unusal punishment to those stuck with the "work" thingy.

Not this boy. I don't tweet although I did register and have some followers, not sure why, maybe it's my good looks :love :lips :hug2

Probably not. I do sit in the office many hours a day and have two laptops going, one on my business stuff and the rest on other stuff, like C-Brats! I also sit on the back porch nearly every night, watching the wildlife and posting on the Dell Mini....

My wife said I used to be Grumpy too but when they did my shoulder about three weeks ago, I must have had a grumpectomy because the grumpiness has all but gone. I think it's just a cessation of a constant pain.... However, three of our grandkids are visiting for a week and I sense a brief return visit... :crook

Jim,

I am about to give up my Grumpy title. As of wednesday I will only be 60% Grumpy (=working) so I can at least partially, join the ranks of the poor but happy and spend my time posting intellectually stimulating pictures and challenging conundrums on here.

Roger has obviously done something similar or else work must be real slow at this time for him to dream up stats like this thread

Merv,

Keep in mind that Roger is in academia... he gets paid to make up questions designed to frustrate college kids. Or perhaps publish papers designed to frustrate other academians? Or maybe it's a "summer schedule" and he has a TA doing all his work so he has time to come up with this stuff? I had a professor like that once: all his multiple choice questions were similar...
"A" was a good answer
"B" was a good answer
"C" was a bad answer
"D" was: all of the above
"E" was: none of the above

He taught psyche classes. Twisted. I'm pretty sure I heard him snickering when he handed out tests.

However, he never handed out a bottle of wine for correct answers.

Best wishes,
Jim

Well August 25th has come and gone and SeaWolf Joe is still the #1 poster on the site. He's still got about 120 more posts than Thataway Bob. Between June 28th and now, Joe's rate of posting is 2.3/day an increased from the 1.59 per day he averaged in the first part of the year. On the other hand, Bob's rate of posting has dropped from 3.68/day in the first half of the year to about 2.4/day since June 28th.

So how can we explain this data?

Theory 1 - the experimenter (me) has influenced the experiment by posting the earlier theory. This had resulted in Joe posting more frequently and Bob posting less frequently.

Theory 2 -It's seasonal. Now that summer has come around, Bob has more to do and is boating more and hence posting less. Joe - living in the very dry state of Ca. - can't get his boat launched as often and is posting more as a result.

Theory 3 - It's random and no one really gives a damn.
