A nice access port or hatch

These are some of the few true watertight deck plates, at a reasonable price. They do stand "proud" of the surface. The surface around the rim should be smooth, and one of the issues for the C Dory cockpit deck, might be the thickness of the deck. Generally I have seen them used for decks which are no more than 3/8" of an inch thick--often aluminum or solid fiberglass decking. The cockpit deck is over 3/4" thick. One could undercut, about the diameter or even 2 sectors, of the dimension of the backing bar, and then re-laminate that specific area to about 1/4" thickness, so the pressure of the backer could be used.

I have a 23 Cape Cruiser with the "water under the cockpit sole" issue and was wondering about recommendations for inspection hatches that are watertight. These ones don't seem to be a good fit considering the thickness of the cockpit deck and the smallest diameter is 8".
Any recommendations for 4"-6" watertight hatches that don't stand too proud of the surface?
Thanks in advance,
Chris

The access ports usually used are the Beckson screw in deck plate in 4 1/2 and 6 1/2 cut out sizes. These are plastic and have a nonskid pattern. The heavy "O" ring gives a good seal. I like to keep these lubricated with silicon grease.

Sea Dog makes some 3 1/2" models in SS. Although they are thinner, I would be concerned about slipping on the polished surface in the cockpit.

Ordered 2 a couple days ago...here's a slightly better deal on the 10" ones.

My access to the bilge on the GB 2670 has the screw on type and it's a royal pain. The "hockey sticks" that hold the bilge in place makes replacement/access to a bunch easier.
