I noted an article in Boat US this month. "Norway's Fleet of 'Flying Electric Ferries'. These are hydrofoil boats by Candela Electric boats. The specific boat in the article is a passanger ferry catamaran which runs on foils. But many of their boats were monohulls. Here is a video on an electric boat doing 150 miles in a day. A trip from Sweden to Finland, rechage about an hour in Finland, and back to Sweden; 75 miles each way. The speeds we in the 20 knot plus.
Here is link ot Candela Boats

It looks as if the forward foil swings aft for shoal water and trailering. The Aft foil, which contains the electric motor retracts up and down, like a dagger board. It would be fairly easy to build a cruising boat to this stye. Now if I were a little younger I would be interested in this type of boat. The ferry boats are all cabin, so there would be a compromist for the "Cruising Boat".
