A beautiful day for the maiden voyage

It was one of those rare winter days in southwest Washington state on the lower Columbia River when the clouds clear and the sun shines all day. The temperature was 54 degrees at 1:00 pm, the wind was almost non-existent, and the river was almost like a pond. It was the perfect setting for the first official cruise of my new (to me) CD 22 Cruiser. I purchased her back in late October but due to work travel and generally lousy weather conditions, small local shakedown runs in and out of the marina to familiarize myself with her and her capabilities, were all I was able to manage. But today dawned clear and my wife and granddaughter insisted that it was time to venture down river. We had a wonderful afternoon exploring the lower Columbia near our home, stopping near Pillar Rock and the old cannery for lunch, drifting along watching the seals play in the river and the eagles soar above.

That's what life is all about - a wonderful family, a good boat, and weather like this in mid-winter in Washington state. What more could one ask for?

I've been a sailor since growing up on Lake Erie and got the C-Dory bug back in the early '90s when I first saw one in Southern California while sailing. I've wanted one ever since. My years of waiting and saving have finally paid off.

I've been visiting the forum for quite a while and have learned so much from all the knowledgeable folks and their C-Dory experiences. I look forward to many happy years with the new boat and learning more and more about this great line of boats from all you out there.

Yes Allen, it was a gorgeous day here today! Seeing that you've not signed in yet for the C-Brat/Seattle Boat Show gathering, I would hope that you and your family would consider joining in on that annual occasion as well.

Dave,

Thanks for the invite. I'd really like to be able to attend and meet other C-Dory owners and continue my learning experience, but unfortunately, work has me traveling for the week prior and the weekend of the Seattle Boat Show.

Well said - thanks for sharing your day with friends.

Allen,

Congratulations and here's wishing you many, many more days like this one. It was a beautiful day in the PNW. Sorry you aren't going to be able to make the SBS CBGT (Seattle Boat Show C-Brat Get Together). It is a rare experience. I too was sailing when I saw my first C-Dory, in N. Idaho on Priest Lake. Guess that is when I got the bug too. This fall was my first trip with SleepyC on the Columbia, 2 days, up and down river from Troutdale, and really enjoyed it. Will be back. There are several C-Dorys in your area, and we do get to see them occasionally, (Friday Harbor, Bellingham, or Sequim CBGT's), so hope you can come up some time too.

Enjoy, the boat and the family, and now you're a part of a bigger family and they are all great. (When I was a kid it always bugged me to be called a brat :disgust --- Hmmm, now I'm proud of it. :thup :wink :thup

Have a great time.

Hello Swabbie (Allen),

Was very happy to read this post. I was longingly looking at the River too that day but alas, the links got my attention.

Hope to meet up with you on the Sound soon.
