84 Days in the Loop

Here is a link to an article (from Boating Magazine) about a couple of sisters from PNW who made a trip around the Great Loop in an open boat. The magazine article was pretty brief, the online one had considerable more info.

Somewhat the minimalists, but this must be close to a record setting time.

Fascinating story about these two young ladies. They were discussed in a thread last summer (http://www.c-brats.com/viewtopic.php?t= ... light=loop) also.

I can see rushing thru in 8-9 MONTHS, but 89 DAYS - no points given.

I followed the sibbs from the start of their trip and they stopped at Wefing's for a oil change and Marc was lucky enough to meet them. He also became a dealer for the boat line they were doing the trip in...Duraboat.

Considering it was an open 16 Alum boat...I think they deserve more than just points.... :thup :thup

As for the time it took, it was all because that is all the time they had available...just out of college for one and both had to get back into the job market at the end of their summer break.

Remember ...the smaller the boat...the bigger the adventure.

Yeah, I followed their blog pretty much the whole way, and Marc hosted them in Apalachicola. He was a little concerned about them heading across the Great Bend without an EPIRB, not sure if they got fixed up with one or not.

Here is the story firsthand on the Duroboat site.

Here is what they wrote about their stop with Marc.

Appolachicola Boat was in put into the Great hands of Marc Grove of Wefing Marina for a scheduled 100 hour oil change. Marc adopted the crew for their stay and was full of good advice and other needed help. Marc specializes in trailerable trawlers. Good boats for doing the loop on a budget in aboat you can actually sleep in. He gets them from our great friends at C-Dory and Arima. Boats that like Duroboat are made and proven in the great Northwest.

Right On----Mike!!! Would like to see more of the attitude and accomplishment shown by these two girls among us C-Brats. Its not the length of the adventure, but the challenge and sense of accomplishment that matters to me. The wonderful adventures we have had in our C-Dory were no more challenging or accomplished then some of our adventures with canoe and RIB. Just a whole lot more comfortable in the C-Dory and yes the bigger the boat only the more comfortable the adventure.

Truely a great adventure. I am fortunate enough to own one of the Duroboats--and love it (12 footer). I have never run mine in really rough water, but have seen one identical to it in steep 4 foot seas (on the beam) running right along.

These gals have what it takes, and is the stuff which America was made of.

Pat, Thanks for posting the other links.
David, Sorry I missed that first go around. Probably because the Great Loop is so far off my radar as a trip to plan for yet. Maybe in a few years.

I did enjoy the photo gallery but many of the pix are people pix and not many have notations included. I didn't get to go through all of their blog yet. Needed a bigger block of time.

Think of all the time you would have if you could learn to get by on, say, five or six hours of sleep a day!
