4 great days on Lake Powell

We just got back last night from 4 great days on Lake Powell. There were hardly any boats on the lake. The water was glass-like (even the main lake), and we had our choice of camp sites. We also took some very nice hikes every day. This was our first trip on the new (used) 22, which I just picked up in Seattle a couple weeks ago. We also let friends use the other 22 which we have up for sale. We think it would be great to keep the other boat for friends, but unless they all want to chip in.....

Our Wallas did fail on us, but I think it's because the house battery might be bad and not be holding a good charge - I'll be testing that out soon. The voltmeter on that battery, while underway, was reading only 8 volts while the other engine was reading 14. I think the 50's can't charge the batteries all that quickly as I recall reading (Chris! Is that true?)

I've got a lot to learn about the E80 - I could spend the winter reading the manual, I guess.

The twin Suzuki 50's did about the same on fuel as the Honda 90 on the other boat.

I'm all ready to go again, but not so sure about the near term weather here.

Ya'all have a good winter!

Hi Tom and Nancy,

Lake Powell is a pretty spectacular place, and it sounds like you had a great time... especially the timing and having the lake mostly to yourselves.

Regarding your Wallas: the only time we had a problem with ours, it turned out to be one of our batteries. I called Scan Marine and they had me check a couple things. I was told, "It's your battery." I scoffed at that, since I had just replaced batteries a few months earlier. Sure enough, one of the batteries had a bad cell. If you're only seeing 8 volts, it's either a REALLY bad battery or a problem with your alternator.

Lot of us have the E-80 - it's a great unit. There are threads here regarding the use of the Raymarine units. If you have any questions (after reading the extensive manuals, of course  ), ask here and you're sure to get answers.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Tom,don't you have a friend who has a place on the east coat where you can park your spare boat? This way it's available for all your CBGT's on this side of the Great Divide. :D I also know a fella who has a feel for this boat :unlove and would be more than willing to take this boat out occasionally so it won't feel neglected. :hug :P :smilep

Allan,
That's a mighty kind offer. I'll give it lots and lots of thought. She's a mighty good boat. We had no problems with anything on that boat at all, whereas we did experience glitches with the newer boat.

To the rest of you who responded - thanks for the links and the thoughts on the Wallas. I'm quite certain it's a battery problem.

Picture's? Yes, I need to get an album going.

thanks, all!
