25' Boat Prices

So there may indeed be some "buys" out there. My advice is that if this is the time you plan to acquire a boat, especially new, if a good value comes along, get it. Could you save more money in three months time? Maybe- or someone else may buy that "great value" boat and you'll have missed out on not just that boat, but the enjoyment of using it for three months time.

My 2 cents worth.

I was down at Sportcraft this morning, taking Constant Craving in for service on the engines. I noticed that Honda was offering 4.99% financing on their engines. My guess is that you could also finance the boat through Honda as well. All things considered, that ain't a bad rate.

But the factory has reduced output, so supply and demand will level out and keep the value on these more stable than high volume builders.

That would be my concern -- where is the bottom. The economy will turn around and probably sooner than later. Once you start to hear that "we have another 5 years" -- well, that'll sound the same as last summers "we'll see $6 gas by 2009" talk.

Once the economy jumps back up, demand will skyrocket and factories and dealers will hold all the cards.

Hard to fish on the bottom...

We bought a CD 25 in early 2007 right before the economy went south. Right now I'm sure we're underwater with regard to the boat value / loan amount. Being fairly conservative, I'm sure I wouldn't buy a boat in the current economy, if I had waited.

Having said that, I'm so glad we bought in 2007. Laurie and I (as well as the kids and dogs) have had a blast and (Lord willing) plan to enjoy the boat for many more years. As long as we don't have to sell, being underwater is not an issue. At some point, things will turn around.

I would recommend if you really want a boat and have the money - buy it! Life is short.

No question about the "life is short" statement--you need to do what you want when you can. I have seen too many people who were not able to--even "next year".

If you want used boats, there are huge bargains. I have heard of used boats (which are sound, but need cleaning up etc) selling for 10 cents on the dollar. Bank repos are where the deals are--and either directly from the bank, or from an intermediatory who is representing the bank---not necessarily at a dealer.

I have seen good buys in every recession, but never as good as I have seen in the last few weeks, and it is not over yet.

I see a couple of you mentioned the dogs. My Golden Retreiver, Jake travels very well in our Motorhome. We have been fulltiming for the past couple of years while we built a house in Port Isabel. But I am not sure how to handle him on the water. I told Wilma we could get him some astro turf for the deck, but she did not like that suggestion. He can hold it all day, but about 7am he needs to go for a nice walk. Chime in with some suggestions....getting rid of Jake is not an alternative. grins

I think this is an important subject that deserves its own thread -- would you mind re-posting as a new thread?

Thanks,

Port Isabel? Is this the Herb that got a tour of Wild Blue before the first of the year? How's the boat search going?

Best wishes,
Jim B. (also in PI)

There is a new Ranger 25 with the Cummins 150 for sale in Anacortes, Wa for 125k with trailer. It is well equipped and has a trailer. I'm considering it but leanning towards a C Dory 25. If anyone is interested they should look into this. It's a great deal.
