2012 Delta/Bay Extravaganza and Catalina Offshore Adventure

If you are interested in attending, please reserve one, or both, of the following dates on your calendar, for two upcoming California C-Dory Gatherings, in 2012.

1. 10th Annual Delta/Bay Extravaganza
Wednesday, May 9, 2012 to Sunday, May 13, 2012

2. 11th Annual Catalina Off-Shore Adventure
Sunday, August 5, 2012 to Saturday, August 11, 2012.

More information will be forthcoming. This is a save the date "post-card" reminder. Hopefully, sign-up event sheets will be created for these two gatherings.

Please do not sign up unless you can commit to the entire event at which ever one you are interested. Look at the last 9 or 10 years of threads if you want to get some idea of what these gatherings are like.

Sincerely,

Jim

Eric and Heather:

Welcome aboard the Delta/Bay Cruise. Looking forward to hearing about the Great Loop. We are armchair members of the Loopers and I have been dreaming about it for sometime in the future!

Jim

Hi Jim,

Please include me for another great trip to the Delta this year. It's a lengthy haul from SoCal, but nothing beats the serenity, comradery and relaxation of this trip combined with your (and Kathy's) leadership. Hope to have 3 of us on board this year.

I'll sign up when the Event Signups list the event.

And thanks for hosting this trip once again (and I'll most likely make the Catalina trip also).

One of the reasons we bought the C Dory 22, was so Marie could do the Delta trip. We are trying to re-arrange some doctor's appointments in the next couple of days, but count us "in". We hope to do the Catalina trip also--but that is a contingent on my daughter's plans. Maybe we could take the grandkids and let them sleep on the beach at one of the camping spots!

Steve:

That is just super that you can come to the Delta again! Kath and I look forward to seeing you.

Dr. Bob and Marie:

We would be so honored if you could come to one or both of these events. John and I enjoyed the last time you made it to Wheeler Island. Regarding Catalina facilities, as you probably know, there is the Banning House Lodge and the Two Harbors Tent Cabins if you are looking at overflow facilities for your family to join you.

All:

Please remember there is a ten (10) vessel maximum for the Delta/Bay Extravaganza and no limit on the Catalina Offshore Adventure. Please sign up early if you plan to go as the Extravaganza has usually pretty much filled up in recent years, and it is first reserved, first come.

Sincerely,

Jim

Good thoughts on the Banning house--and I suspect that there are more facilities ashore now than when I was going over to the Isthmus every weekend--40 years ago!

We will know on Tuesday (Monday being a holiday, and the doctor's offices are closed). But right now we are 85 % that we will be there for the Delta.

Hi Jim,

Marcia and I are excited that you and Kathy are leading the cruise again this year. You do a great job! Count us in and hopefully a sign-up list will appear soon.

One of the possible destination attractions that was mentioned last year was a visit to Alcatraz Island Prison. There was a recent article in the L.A. Times about night tours that also include dungeon visits that are not a part of the regular daytime tours. Lots of Civil War history stuff. Any possibility there?

Dr. Bob

I don't think you're going to find many changes at Two Harbors. Besides the camping areas, there really isn't any other place to stay other than the Banning House and the tent cabins. We have stayed in the old part (1920-40 style motel rooms) of the Banning House and also the new addition which has incredible views, and is a little more modern. Breakfast is included with your room.

We look forward to meeting you and Marie. It will be fun discussing our Burbank/Glendale 50's memories!

Jim and Kathy,

Thanks for leading these wonderful cruises again; they are the highlights of our year. Please count my father and I as in, and we will add our names as soon as the sign-up page as soon as it is up.

For those that haven't been. - These cruises really exemplify the comradery and friendship of the C-Brats. Both are both excellent opportunities to try longer or more challenging cruising then you may have done before, while in the safety and companionship of fellow C-Brats.

Incidentally, we are planning to cruise down the coast again this year, going by water from the Delta Cruise/Extravaganza to the Catalina Offshore Adventure. If anyone might be interested in joining us, please send me an email.

Hi Jim,

I have just shared this thread with the Marcia of the MARCIA JANE and she thinks that my suggestion of going on the Alcatraz night tour on the last night of our cruise is one of my dumber ideas. :cocktail - No, I had not been drinking, but as a former history teacher, I thought the night tour :moon would really be interesting.

She and I both enjoyed the restaurant we went to last year and certainly the camaraderie of our fellow brats. I enjoyed my beef ribs so much I even took a picture of them. :thup In other words, whatever you decide is just great! We understand the complexity of coordinating an event such as this and really appreciate your efforts. Hopefully now I'm out of the doghouse.

Regards,

Kent

Jon, Kent and Marcia, David and Donald, and Russell and Theresa -Welcome aboard! We look forward to seeing everyone.

Kent, maybe on Saturday during the day you can figure out a way to do the Alcatraz cruise. You will have to get yourself over to Pier 39 to sign up and get on their tour boat as you cannot access the Island yourself.

Sincerely,

Jim

Why not storm the Island! Seems to be that there was a move made about that --and the C Dory would be the perfect stealth boat! I think that Joe has the armament necessary--or just show any guards his photo--and they will wilt away!

OK--in jest--and I have not real desire to visit Alcatraz. I saw enough visiting our local jail during a recent LEO academy we took!

Dear All:

What a fantastic turn-out for the Delta and Bay Extravaganza. In just one week we now have nine (9) vessels signed up as follows:

1. Jim and Kath on Pounder
2. John and Robbin on Dinner Belle II
3. Eric and Heather on Chack Chack
4. Steve and compay on Dora Jean
5. Dr. Bob and Marie on Thisaway
6. Jon on Gypsy River
7. Kent and Marcia on Marcia Jane
8. David and Donald on Blue Eagle
9. Russell and Theresa on Whale Watcher.

Because of the marina logistic challenges of this trip, we have found over the years that we can manage about ten (10) vessels maximum. We made reservations at San Francisco South Beach Marina for ten vessels a year ago!

Therefore, we have room for just one (1) more vessel to sign up! Kath and I are looking forward to another great journey, and we are excited about all the attendees. Out of the nine vessels signed up, 8 are returning from prior years! It is always great to have a few newcommers!

Sincerely,

Jim

Hey Kent, not sure where Marcia's coming from, but I think I'd possibly like to see Alcatraz Is. and facility also (two dumbies...). A little depends on the crew I have, the newcomer might want to see Angel Island instead, which is always a treat for me.

Hi Steve and all

Marcia's concern was missing out on dinner with the group if we went on the night Alcatraz tour. As you recall last year, some folks chose to go to a different daytime destination rather than tour Angel Island again. I checked on daytime Alcatraz Island tours and reservations are required and can only be made a couple of months ahead. We would be interested in a daytime tour of Alcatraz instead of Angel Island and then we can go on that special night tour sometime later on our own. (good excuse for a weekend in S.F.) That way we won't miss dinner with the group.

Kent

Hopefully, this gathering and the Catalina Cruise will be posted on Event Signups soon. THANKS

Hello All, Laurie and I are new owners of a 2006 cruiser and would love to join you all!. We just now saw that sign-ups (ok one) may be still available and we will gladly take a spot. Let us know if that works out. Hope to meet some of the folks we have only seen posts here on this site.
BTW We just finished a mini cruise launching from Rio Vista up to Sacramento Yacht Club, and beyond. Had a great time, water was flat, only boats out there were a couple of fisherman and duck guys. We had the mighty Sacramento and Steamboat Slough practically to ourselves. Those of you in east of us will just hate that the weather was crystal clear and was maybe 65 in afternoon.... :P yep it was rough!
