2011 California Coastal Cruise

Once again we will be cruising the California Coast from the San Francisco Bay to Marina del Rey. Ports of call will include San Francisco, Monterey, Morro Bay, Santa Barbara, and Marina del Rey.

The trip will be from July 18 to 23, weather pending (Last year we tried to go in June and had several weather delays, by mid-July it has usually settled down.)

Vehicles and trailers can be parked next to the harbor patrol office, and rides will be available to come get them afterward (so you don't have to take the boat both ways)

At this point I am just trying to get an idea of whether anyone might be interested in joining us, either for the entire trip, or just a segment or two, so please let me know if you are.

I would be interested..... I have done that before but never on anything less than 85'..... was kinda rough just out of San Francisco...in nice weather is would be a great ride.... (downhill).. we were running 3 miles offshore...at night it was stunning.

Sounds like a challange, and perhaps a nice trip. I have gone up and down that section of the coast in a number of boats, but mostly in 38 to 62 footers--and it was often rough. Occasionally the wind can be out of the South--and then you are bucking into the seas. There are a number of anchorages, and I think I have hit most of them. Quiet Water Cove, off Pebble Beach club house is one I like. Pfeiffer State beach cove (Big Sur) is another. Almost always I stop at San Simmion Cove. Of course Port San Louis is just be low Morro Bay (the bar at Morro Bay can be very dangerous). Cojo is often used on the way North. Also coming South this is an exccellent time to go out to San Miquel, and Santa Rosa island.

We might be interested as well. I have not put my boat out on the California coast yet so I might do some researching first to see what I should expect with the water. I will definitely keep you posted and it does sound like a good time.
 
I would be interested in joining you depending on what dates you end up deciding on. I have my boat at Spud Point Marina in Bodega Bay. I am familiar with the sections of the coast you are describing, most of which I've paddled in a kayak. Two summers ago, I spent a week out at the Channel Islands with my C-Dory and a couple of kayaks.

The weather window is definitely important! Lots of big water, especially around Point Concepcion.
