Dear C-Brats-
Welcome to the 9th Annual, Catalina Off-shore Adventure. Currently fourteen (14) vessels are signed up for this event as follows:
1. Jim and Kath on Pounder
2. John and Robbin on Dinner Belle II
3. Ron and Nat on Islander (A 35 Foot Duffy Lobster Boat)
4. Steve on Dora Jean
5. Ken and Marcia on Marcia Jane
6. Scott on Lil Rascal
7. Dan on Farwest II
8. Jeff on Bossa Nova
9. David and Donald on Blue-Eagle
10. Phil on No Pressure
11. Joel and Susan on SEA3PO
12. Mike on Sealife
13. Ikaikacaptain
14. Gypsy River.
If anyone else is coming to this event, please get your name on this list. We still need names of skippers for Ikaikacaptain and Gypsy River. Also, if other crew is coming that are not listed above, please provide their names so that we have some head count for the entire group.
This event has traditionally been lead by Mike Sealife. Then Ron Islander led the group for a time. Also, in the past, Sam and Kerry helped out with string line reservations. Mike and Ron, though both signed up for this gathering, have retired from event leadership, and Sam and Kerry are MIA. This year, due largely to default, we will try to bring some structure to this largely loosely organized, Jimmy Buffett, non-virtual event.
We plan to meet at Marina Del Ray (MDR) on Sunday late afternoon, August 15th. We will stay at MDR on Sunday evening at the guest dock and leave our trailers and trucks in MDR. Be sure to pay for the correct number of parking days at MDR or you will get ticketed. Those in the group who want to, usually go out to dinner together on Sunday night.
We will go over to Two Harbors on Monday morning, August 16th, leaving MDR at approximately 7:00 AM, and go as a group to Two Harbors, Catalina Island. When we get to Two Harbors we will try to get string line reservations close to shore, and together. We will coordinate this reservation on the way over and communicate on VHF Channel 69.
Most of us will return from Two Harbors on Saturday morning, August 21st. Again, we will leave Two Harbors at approximately 7:00 AM on Saturday.
On Monday night we will have a group pot luck on the beach. Kath and I will bring the meat to barbeque. Each boat should plan on bringing a dish to share with the group. If you can, please indicate what dish you will bring Monday night to the group BBQ. Everyone is to bring their own drinks to the beach party Monday night.
During the week we may have fishing trips to the outer Channel Islands, scuba diving trips, kayaking excursions along the coast, and bicycle trips around this end of the island. For many, it will just be relaxing to sit on their C-Dory’s and watch the sun rise and set. On Friday night, for those that want to, we usually have a group dinner together at the restaurant.
For the rest of the time many folks eat breakfast over at the grill in the morning, and most eat their own lunches and dinners on their own boats. Many boats usually host a happy hour during the week on their boats.
Be sure to bring a good functioning tender, as a big part of island life is getting to, and from, the dingy dock, and cruising around to all the other boats and doing visiting. Also, bring quarters for the pay showers!
More later,
Jim and Kath
