2010 Delta/Bay Extravaganza and Catalina Adventure

I talked with Bill at Delta Marina to verify we had space for Tuesday night.
He said there would be no launch fee for our group- just the parking fee and dock fee.

Big Ron-

That new ZIP line over at Avaon looks pretty cool. Maybe we will put it on our list of activities for the 2010 Catalina Offshore Adventure . Good research Ron.

Folks, there is still time to sign up for the Catalina C-Dory Gathering.

Sincerely,

jim

Dear All Delta and Bay Extravaganza C-Brats and C-Dogs:

Our event is now only one week away! We are looking forward to seeing you folks next Wednesday, May 12th.

Kath and I will be lauching at the docks about 10 AM and leaving Rio Vista at Noon.

We should have good weather for the trip. It is supposed to rain a bit on next Monday and Tuesday, and then clear up for our Wednesday departure!

Everything is a go from everybody and all systems are normal.

Bon Voyage.

Jim

Jim and All,

Marcia and I plan to launch sometime Tuesday afternoon as well. Looking forward to a great cruise! :D

OK, OK, sorry for the delay in posting. I posted a few pics in the Delta Album that was so graciously provided (thanks Mike and/or Bill). The pics aren't the best quality, they were taken with my Blackberry, but pictures they are!

Thanks again Jim and Kathy for a great cruise, well organized and well entertained for 5 glorious days. It was great seeing old friends again and check'n out each others' boats. Weather was very cooperative and pleasant.

So, let's see some more pics from you guys with REAL cameras!!!

Finally I got our pictures posted!

Once again, Jim and Kathy showed why the Delta Extravaganza is sooo special! What a great time was had by all!

Hats off to John and Robin also :D What superb hosts! The night at Wheeler Island is worth the long trip all by itself.

I'll do a separate post re: picture posting problems. Maybe it's just me, but I have a real problem posting pictures in order, with comments etc.

Again, THANK YOU ALL for making this such a great adventure!

Nice pictures Kent! However, they all came out thumbnail size, even when clicked to enlarge. Possibly you loaded them at too small of resolution/size? Or is there an option you needed to choose to allow clicking to enlarge?

Sorry, I just don't know that much about the picture loading options, maybe someone else can help that has experienced this.

Dear C-Brats-

Welcome to the 9th Annual, Catalina Off-shore Adventure. Currently fourteen (14) vessels are signed up for this event as follows:

1. Jim and Kath on Pounder
2. John and Robbin on Dinner Belle II
3. Ron and Nat on Islander (A 35 Foot Duffy Lobster Boat)
4. Steve on Dora Jean
5. Ken and Marcia on Marcia Jane
6. Scott on Lil Rascal
7. Dan on Farwest II
8. Jeff on Bossa Nova
9. David and Donald on Blue-Eagle
10. Phil on No Pressure
11. Joel and Susan on SEA3PO
12. Mike on Sealife
13. Ikaikacaptain
14. Gypsy River.

If anyone else is coming to this event, please get your name on this list. We still need names of skippers for Ikaikacaptain and Gypsy River. Also, if other crew is coming that are not listed above, please provide their names so that we have some head count for the entire group.

This event has traditionally been lead by Mike Sealife. Then Ron Islander led the group for a time. Also, in the past, Sam and Kerry helped out with string line reservations. Mike and Ron, though both signed up for this gathering, have retired from event leadership, and Sam and Kerry are MIA. This year, due largely to default, we will try to bring some structure to this largely loosely organized, Jimmy Buffett, non-virtual event.

We plan to meet at Marina Del Ray (MDR) on Sunday late afternoon, August 15th. We will stay at MDR on Sunday evening at the guest dock and leave our trailers and trucks in MDR. Be sure to pay for the correct number of parking days at MDR or you will get ticketed. Those in the group who want to, usually go out to dinner together on Sunday night.

We will go over to Two Harbors on Monday morning, August 16th, leaving MDR at approximately 7:00 AM, and go as a group to Two Harbors, Catalina Island. When we get to Two Harbors we will try to get string line reservations close to shore, and together. We will coordinate this reservation on the way over and communicate on VHF Channel 69.

Most of us will return from Two Harbors on Saturday morning, August 21st. Again, we will leave Two Harbors at approximately 7:00 AM on Saturday.

On Monday night we will have a group pot luck on the beach. Kath and I will bring the meat to barbeque. Each boat should plan on bringing a dish to share with the group. If you can, please indicate what dish you will bring Monday night to the group BBQ. Everyone is to bring their own drinks to the beach party Monday night.

During the week we may have fishing trips to the outer Channel Islands, scuba diving trips, kayaking excursions along the coast, and bicycle trips around this end of the island. For many, it will just be relaxing to sit on their C-Dory’s and watch the sun rise and set. On Friday night, for those that want to, we usually have a group dinner together at the restaurant.

For the rest of the time many folks eat breakfast over at the grill in the morning, and most eat their own lunches and dinners on their own boats. Many boats usually host a happy hour during the week on their boats.

Be sure to bring a good functioning tender, as a big part of island life is getting to, and from, the dingy dock, and cruising around to all the other boats and doing visiting. Also, bring quarters for the pay showers!

More later,

Jim and Kath

We'll be at MDR to meet with you all on Sunday, before you depart on Monday. We love this trip and hate to miss it, but we have conflicting schedules with another group outing.

YeeHaw!!!!
We are coming to Catalina and we can't wait to see everyone. It has been soo long since we've cruised with you fine folks. Thanks Jim and Kathy for getting this going this year. Count on us to be at MDR on Sunday!

Looks like I have a choice, either go solo and travel with the group on Monday morning, OR, bring my daughter on Tues, Aug 17th. Hmmmmm, let me think, thinking's over, I'll see ya'll on Tuesday at the Isthmus!

Sorry I'll miss the BBQ on Monday, but maybe we can do our Santa Barbara fishing trip on Wednesday. My daugther (Melinda) and I plan to do some diving as well. It'll be great seeing so many friends this year, what a gathering. And even Brent and Dixie, whoa.... :-) Fantastic!

I plan to leave the island with the group on Saturday.

Dear All-

It is great that Steve on Dora Jean is coming. At this point our tentative schedule for any who want to participate can be firmed up as follows:

1. Monday - Group BBQ dinner
2. Tuesday- Free day to swim and kayack
3. Wednesday - Fishing at Santa Barbara Island
4. Thursday - Diving off Avalon casino
5. Friday - Bicycle ride.

Sincerely,

Jim and Kath
