2008 Venture 23 Pictures.....

Hi everyone: I am a recently registered C-Dory wannabe. My name is Pete, and I live in Michigan. My boating experience is limited to a friend's Boston Whaler 17' Montauk, a Hobie Cat, a 22' Cuddy made by AMF several years ago, and my previously owned 14' Meyers aluminum fishing boat.

I have spent many hours reading about the travels of the C-Brats, and have been enjoying it a great deal. Great website with great people. I am looking forward to someday owning a C-Dory. Thus, as I was searching the net, I see that the first pictures of the Venture 23 have been posted on the site of the Charleston, SC dealer. Here they are at

Thought you all would like to see them, haven't seen any other recent posts about this resurrected boat.

I think those are in fact pictures of a CC and not the new incarnation as a C-Dory Venture. I'd be very surprised if the CD Venture series does not have the trademark CD side stripe that tapers new the bow AND the CD logos on the side.
 
I called that dealer last week to try to get some idea. He said the 23 Venture is from CC molds. They will be getting 1 in Nov. and said it will be a little pricier than a 22, in the $60's. Not much in the way of details.

I also asked Scot in the thread of the last couple of weeks about "cutting back." No response about the 23 Venture and if it is affected by the cutting back of production.

The CC molds were given to C-Dory as part of the settlement with CC.

There were rumors at the SBS/CBC that they would eventually be put into production by C-Dory.

Is this just a single, left over boat from CC, or a new model for C-Dory?

If it's a new model added to the line, it might bring more issues of correcting QC issues that naturally arise in the building process.

With the venerable CD-22, is the Venture 23 really needed?

A number of months ago I heard that the Venture Series was going to be a more high-end, upscale type-boat than the standard CD, including more teak trim and so on. Who knows now with the recent changes at the factory.

According to the C-Dory website, the 23 and 26 are upcoming models...although the "downsize" might affect that.
Some say that the 23 and 26 are actually Toland improved versions of the 22 and 25 (slight deadrise, bow angle, transom, gunwale width, floor, etc). I would guess, especially with the cutbacks, that it is at least a possibility that they would replace the 22 and 25
 
They are being built now, they ARE The CC molds , will be introduced around the first of the year ,are a little more expensive, but with more features and amenities, are well liked in their CC incarnation , and we are excited to have a couple on order .They are additional choices from C Dory. I try to post some more details as well as real pictures as I get it sorted out .

I ran into [not literally ] to the "Travels with shorty guy" Larry Hoth at Scipio Creek Marina one evening . He had just about finished the great Loop with his wife on a CC 26 . They have very positive things to say about the boat , and it sounded like a great adventure .

Well, since the molds already exist and are now the property of C-Dory, I don't see why cutting back on production would necessitate the elimination of any model. If C-Dory were to design and build these molds from scratch, I'd say that it might be a waste of resources; since that's not the case, the diversity might work in their favor... instead of one 22 and then another when the mold is free, they can do a 22 and a 23 at the same time.

To split the potential market with another company might mean too little share for either; one company producing both boats ("Classic" and "Venture") may be very good for the factory.

The whole CD vs CC situation was ugly. This evolution has the potential to be positive for the factory and boat buyers. Makes sense to me.

Thanks for the link on the Loop trip. Looks to be a great read at a later time. Rumor has it the first one out is going to be named C-Lawyer.

The pictures that we posted are from the old CC site, we will post the real pictures when our first 23 Venture comes in November.

With a Suzuki 115 hp, Aluminum trailer and freight, we will price the first one at $61,750.

Our first 23 will be blue and comes standard with;
Batteries
Fuel gauges
Hot water heater
Hydraulic steering
Interior grab rails
Refrigerator
Shore power
Trim tabs

Probably the most significant features are that it is self bailing, has wider side decks and flat interior floor which should provide some sound damping for quieter running.

Self bailing? I don't remember the 23 being self bailing, at least when CC was making them . Did they raise the deck in the cockpit? Very interesting.

That picture is actually my boat. :lol: I am the proud owner of haul #1. I am not hear to get into what went down between CC and CD. I will tell you it is a great boat, and has been nothing but a pleasure to own over the past few years. IT is a great quality boat and we have had zero issues with it so far. Now that the venture is a line of CC, I will quit being a lurker and post. Please feel free to ask me any questions about the boat. I am in the Tacoma area, and if anyone is interested in checking it out first hand or going for a ride, just shot me a message......

Welcome aboard Doug. I looked at the CC 23 just after they came out. They are definitely nice boats.

I really liked the idea of the 26 that didn't have the step down into the cabin. It will be interesting to look at that boat when they come out.

So Doug - is the 23 self bailing?
 
On another note - it will be interesting to see what CD does regarding the interior on the Venture series boats. E.g. will they go with a fiberglass liner type or something more like the old CD interior? The latter would be quicker, the former probably cheaper in the long run. However, with 2 somewhat similar lines of boats, one way to differentiate the two would be to make one more "Jeep like" (e.g. old style interior) and one more finished.
 
Not exactly sure what Self bailing means. I think you mean an area that runs under the boat that collects water and runs it to the bildge pump. If that is what "self bailing" means, then no it is not. It has a slanted floor in the back of the boat where any water that comes in runs off to a bildge pump inbetween the fuel tanks.
 
Self bailing means that the floor of the cockpit is above the water line. Hence holes that are sealed with "scuppers" (flaps or floating balls) can be cut into the transom to allow water to flow out.
