17th Annual Delta and Bay Extravaganza for 2019

C-Hawk and SEA3PO (C-Hawks only friend) will be putting in at Rio Vista Monday 4/29. Plan to cruise up river and possibly spend a night on the Old Town Sacramento dock. Gotta have a meal (or 2) at Tony's Place in Walnut Grove on the way up or back.

C-Hawk and SEA3PO, Mind if I join up and tag along? I need to go back and do some checking, but since the geography there is totally new, are you launching at the same place as the official cruise will be starting and leaving from? I plan to be down there, probably a few days earlier than you are planing on, hoping to do some exploring but would like to meet up with you and join the cruise up the river. Are you planning on anchoring out on your "Pre trip" trip, or is that not possible on the river?

the town of Locke looks really interesting. I may have to check that out if I have time.

On another note, and in the interest of now showing up empty handed, I would like to bring a case of wine for dinner at the duck club.

Harvey if you have a few days, it might be interesting for you to go up the Mokelumne River. Probably the easiest way is thru 3 mile Slough, which is just a little South of Rio Vista. (I have launched at the State Park there because I was towing the 25 with a 30' RV which was too big to launch at the marina, and gone under the bridge to the Sacramento River.).

I don't know if you could get thru the Delta Cross Canal, even if it were open (near Walnut Grove). Locke Slough is one of our favorites--with bow to the bank of the abandoned railroad, and a very short walk to the town of Locke. There used to be a number of "warnings"--"shoal, snags, & do not enter", We have taken a 6' draft sailboat all of the way to the bank--(carefully). There are a number of marvelous anchorages on the Mokelumne and San Joaquin River sections. We liked it better than the Sacramento River, as you go further inland.

Conrad. Thanks for the wine contribution.

On the pre-trip for folks, use the visitor dock and walk over to "Al the Wops" in Locke. Have a steak dinner with the Harley Bikers. Tell them you are a C-Doryer. You can also stay the night on this dock for a nominal volunteer user fee.

Bob, Thanks for the Delta tour tips. I am looking forward to this trip, new scenery and hopefully warm(er) weather.

And as a side note, my last sailboat, a Montgomery 15 (#348) "Pelican" with a blue shear stripe went to that area about 12 years ago. Sure would be fun to see that around on the water.

Will I need mosquito defense there?

We'll be putting in at Rio Vista and going up river Monday.
This is an open schedule and all are welcome for the pre-trip trip.

Not sure where I will be, but will launch before the weekend. I will be monitoring VHF16, and will find out what channel vessel traffic control is and monitor on that one as well, and VHF 69. I will try and meet up with Joel and Roger for the trip up river, and also with Steve maybe for the weekend prior.

vhf 14 for the inland VTS

I just called the marina, (Delta Marina, 100 Marina Dr, Rio Vista, CA 94571
Harbormaster Lanka (707) 374-2315
Business hours or VM after.) to confirm OK parking prior to the May 1 launch date. They are OK with early arrival.

Bill is no longer the harbormastor, and Lanka told me "they were all getting it done".

Hi Harvey,

If you have not heard you may want to fill up on fuel before getting into California - we are over $4.00 per gal.

Steve

Thank you Steve. I'm at about a half tank and thought to wait to fill until I got down there to save carrying the fuel weight. Maybeeeee Not. Thanks for the heads up.

Also consider that all "marine gas" is ethanol laced. Other than Aviation fuel, there seems to be no "non ethanol" gas available in Calif.

Sounds like a good time for Startron, RingFree and Stabil on the last fill.

I just saw a note somewhere that E-15 is going to start showing up in some places. Sure hate to see that.

Might be getting time to revert to sailboat gas. :?

"Where oh Where did my Pelican go, Oh where oh where did it go"
Oh yeah, SF Bay.

Heads up for Guided Fishing on Thursday at the Duck Club

Because of the heavy winter we had the Stripped Bass fishing right now is considered winter fishing conditions with cold water and sleepy fish. Because of this the guide is kind of recommending that we do Sturgeon fishing. The Guide will be set up for either Sturgeon or Stripped Bass, but not both.

But to do Sturgeon you must have your California Sturgeon Fishing Tags in your possession. This is required to even get on the Guide's boat if he is fishing for Sturgeon.

For all those who plan to go fishing with the Guide I recommend that you get your Surgeon Fishing Tags now. The extra cost is about $8.64, but well worth it if we do the Sturgeon fishing.

For those that do not want to do the Sturgeon fishing, John says the Stripped Bass fishing at his dock by the pump should still be pretty good for smaller size Stripped Bass.

I have my Sturgeon Tags and am ready to go!

Hi Jim, Thanks for that heads up on the Sturgeon Tag! Looking forward to seeing all of you. As tradition dictates :D Laurie and I will be bringing a good assortment of local craft beer :beer to share with all. We are pretty darn excited about this upcoming trip! I just put new two new props and getting Slack Time a bit of well deserved attention.
John and Laurie :beer

Don't know if anyone has put together a spread sheet with contact info for this event. If you have, please PM me. If not, I have a list in WORD that I can share when we get together, provided there is someplace that has a copy machine.

Looking forward to this. Thanks to all for your effort and participation already.
