12 foot C-Dory

Wonder if this will work.

What a cute boat and a neat story. Probably about an 2004, built by one of the guys working in the C-Dory factory at that time.

Would this work as a dinghy to tow behind my CD-22 or be too heavy?

The owner said it was a 2-person lift boat. 1" balsa cored sole, and 20 -24 inches chine to gunnel. I thought it might fit Tom's 27 OK. Your 22 would pull it, and it does have floatation in it, but it is half the length (plus), of your 22.

Sure would look neat though. Then you would need a 7 footer just to keep it all in perspective. :embarrased

Now back to that memory thing.... ....If my memory serves me right, years ago between '99 and '04 when C-Dory was built at the old, old factory in Kent the factory had an open house. At the open house there was a drawing for a C-Dory like the one pictured in this thread. I have no idea who won the drawing and subsequently the boat....but what I do know is that it wasn't me that won the drawing.... .

It would look good on my 27 but I would need a davit lift system in order to get it up there. For that I would need a lot more money and for that I need 6 of you to buy or sell your house thought me, your friendly c-brat realty agent. So who wants to help me buy that boat??

Marty,

I don't think it is the same boat, (based on his - story  that the seller gave me). It was probably made from the same mold, but his is on a EZ Load trailer, a 2004. The OB that came with was a 4.5 Evinrude, 2 cycle, a 1983, probably much older than the boat. He thought it was about a 2004.

Nice guy on the phone. Sounds that way anyway.

Back in the family and now parked in our driveway. Thanks for the tip Tom. You were all right, we couldn't stay away. Well, at least we still qualify to attend gatherings and you can plan on seeing this little dory at a northwest gathering this year. Now I just need a couple of 3.5 Tohatsu's.

Congrats! :note :note You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave... :note :note 8)

This may qualify you for the "Shortest Time Between C-Dorys" award at the next gathering. :D

Best wishes,

I had the first chance today to view it in daylight and I really like the little boat. I took a few more pics and put them here:

http://www.c-brats.com/modules.php?set_ ... _album.php

Not sure how many of these boats there are but I think there are at least two small models. I cannot find any trace of a hull number and there is also no load/power rating placard or sticker anywhere on the boat. The one pictured earlier in this thread has a placard held on with rivets, and based on the ratings and the appearance of the boat, I think it may be a smaller 10ft version of the one we have.

Ours has no trace of the rivets used on a placard and based on its measurements of 12'2" and 51'' wide at the transom, this one should be rated for closer to 500 lbs and 15 hp just based on size. The width at center is 56 inches and the transom height is 20 inches so a long shaft would be best.

Without a hull number and no registration history, I am planning to start with a fresh reg. and rate it based on build and dimensions. We can't get an actual title for it for 3 years in this situation but it can be registered and used in the meantime.

The forward bow seat and rear stern seats are sealed fiberglass presumably with foam fill for level floatation. The center bench is just a upside down U of fiberglass. The bottom appears to be cored and the rumor is with balsa the transom is supposed to be the same but I cannot confirm that yet. The center board/seat in the back just lifts out and has a couple of strips of velcro in place to keep it in position.

We are planning to take it out for a paddle this weekend after the show and see how the size and stability stacks up to some our needs in a smaller boat. We had planned to get something simple and easy to use and travel with but had not planned for a boat quite this simple. We are also doing serious logistical research on a liveaboard trawler option so it could still wind up as our tender.

It has a hull similarly shaped to the larger C-Dorys and I am wondering
how it might plane and what size outboard would push it on a plane with two adults and a kid aboard plus some other gear. I also wonder how it might handle on plane. Based on some looking, it seems a 10 hp might be a good fit but I really don't know. I do have friends with this size motor so at least I could try one out. I will be soliciting advise this weekend at the show so get your opinions ready. I will also try to weigh it before the weekend but I am guessing 125-150lbs.

As Harvey knows, I have a wide range of ideas on how to modify this little craft but it will have to prove it's general worth to more than just me before modifications can be justified.

Love it!

Greg,

I would sure try the 10, and I'm sure it would do "Hull Speed" just fine but I would be surprised if it would plane with the load you are talking. You may wind up in the 15 neighborhood by the time you take lunch, PFD's, an anchor and that fly bridge. (Even the 15 will be sipping fuel compared to the "Big Boat."

Check with some of the pro's (Matt, Marc or Les) for starters if the 10 doesn't do the trick for you.

Sure looks like fun.

Harvey-

If that's the boat I think it is, it's called an "Addictor". Cute, fun, but not good for much than a fast ride around. They disappeared from the market when jet skis took over, which are safer with the jet, and more fun as long as you're around warm water, and don't mind getting wet. Another boat that did the same was the mini-jet boat, and just about every major manufacturer made one around 1986 or so.
