NOTE: CRUISE CANCELLED

Didn't we used to have a Fall cruise on Lake Washington? I seem to remember going through the locks to Shilshole and then lunch at Fisherman's terminal or Ivars. Anyone up for it this year? Thanks..

Added to Calendar for December 16, 2006.

Yes, in 2003 and 2004, we had a December Lake Washington - Montlake Cut - Lake Union - Ship Canal cruise to Chinooks at Fisherman's Terminal. I liked that one a lot. Here is the group shot from 2003:

We would be. I have been wanting to get back up there for a long weekend. Too bad it isn't this weekend. Looks like the weather is going to be good.

December Lake Washington/Lake Union cruise? Do you decorate your boats? That sounds like BIG fun... alas, we will be in the warmth... looking forward to decorating Wild Blue for our lighted boat parade (we took first place in our division on the catboat last year). :xlol

Best wishes,
Jim B.

I would be interested in this get together if the weather permits cruising up from Olympia. If this get together is scheduled and C-Brats from south of Olympia plan to go, maybe we can have a group cruise from Swantown in Olympia to it.

From Swantown to the Lake Washington Ship Canal is 62 miles by water. It takes me 3.5 hrs to make the cruise, however that may be faster than most people want to go, so we could go at a leisurely 14 knots and make it in 4.5 hrs.

Take lots of pictures and post them in your album.

There is an annual tour of Lake Washington each year in December by the Seattle Yacht club where all the boats are decorated and lit. I think they do it on one or more evenings. We have been on it once and it was quite an event. Boats join in from all aorund the lake and some of the decorating jobs are incredible.

Maybe we should make a C-Brat group entry???

I'm sure someone on here knows the organisers.

Just a thought

The way this works usually is that someone proposes a date - no date works for everyone, but after a bit of discussion, a date gets settled, and Mike or Bill give us a signup sheet. So how about December 16? Gather in Lake Washington near Husky Stadium, maybe through the locks (I like that idea), back to Chinooks?

There is an excellent ramp in Bellevue, just off I-405. Heading south, take the Coal Creek Pkwy exit. At the bottom of the hill torn right, go about 1/2 mile to the Mercer Marine sign and turn left. This ramp will put you just south of the I-90 bridge, and about three miles north of Coulon Park in Renton (also a nice ramp.) To get to the Montlake cut meeting place proceed north under the I-90 bridge and then straight ahead north up to and under the next (Route 520) floating bridge. If you stay on the east side you will pass Bill Gate's house (with the flag pole). Just after you cross under the 520 bridge turn left and proceed west until you see the Husky Stadium on the horizon. The meeting place will be around there.

Marty, we usually launch at Mercer Island, right under the East Channel Bridge...lots of parking, I think it is $7, used to be anyway. We have never used the launch you are describing, how is the parking and what is the cost? Who owns and operates it?

Pat-The ramp is run by the City of Bellevue. It is right between the Newport Yacht Basin and Mercer Marine on the North and Newport Shores Yacht Club on the south. There are two ramps, one for putting in and one for taking out, with a long floating waiting pier between. It costs $8 during the week and $9 on Sat and Sunday. I haven't had a problem parking there but it does tend to be busy on Summer weekends. Here's more

Thanks, Marty - here is the link to the corresponding City of Mercer Island web page. This is $7 weekdays and weekends, and is probably a little easier to reach for people approaching on I-90. So we will probably stick with Mercer Island, although they don't allow overnight parking, and there is only one ramp (in December it is rarely crowded!)

Thanks for the information pertaining to both of the boat launches. We've always wanted to do the 'locks' so this just might be the time to have that experience. If a date gets set up, we'll do our best to be there. We'd be driving down from Bellingham. Not sure which launch we'll use but probably leaning towards the one at Mercer Island.
