12/16 - Lake Washington/Locks Cruise - CANCELLED

Hi Joe and Ruth,
Another option that would probably work better for you coming from the North, would be Magnusen Park. It is located at the old Sand Point Naval Facility on Sand Point Way. Good launch site and plenty of parking....of course in December, you can find parking at any launch site as C-Dorys are about the only vessel on the water.

Thanks Dave, this launch sounds like a splendid idea. I am familiar with Sand Point Way as I use the Federal Archives down there but I take 65th Street exit off of I-5. Not a good route for a truck towing a boat. What would be the best route?

Thanks,

Ruth and Joe

Count me in, weather permitting because I will be going by boat from Olympia.

I just modified the heater in my boat for cold weather cruising.

Well, nobody had fits over December 16...how about a sign-up, Mike?

OK - it's there. This is a one day affair? Check the info on the signup and let me know of any changes. Hope all the Wallas stoves are working!

Yeah, just a day cruise...meet up around 10:00 a.m. What am I saying? Marty is in charge of this puppy!

Hey, this gig's just out my window, so count me in. I'll be there with Bambina if the weather's decent, without her if it ain't.

How many C-dories can you get in the big locks at the same time? What a photo that would make!

Man! This sounds like a great cruise! I used to take my ski boat out on Lake Washington and Lake Union yearsss ago. Would have been fun to take the C-dory down. Hope you all have a great trip!

Like Jethro Bodine used to say on the Beverly Hillbilly's - "I done some cypherin". Per my computations, I estimate around 370 C-Dory's (22 footers) could cram into the large Seattle lock. 350 would be a bit more comfortable.

I got my lock dimensions from this article: http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/getaways/ ... rip29.html

That would be 37 boats nose to tail X 10 boats across

someone else can compute the small lock for me.

While I am not going to be up there 'til Dec 21st, I am wondering, on the average, about how long it would take to do the "lock cruise" in December?
Maybe just to Union Lake for a nice lunch , and then back out to Elliot Bay?

Should not affect the 16th but worth noting the following text from Waggoners on line.

Large Lock Closed November 17 – December 1

November 2, 2006. The large lock at the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks in Ballard will be closed for its annual maintenance beginning midnight Friday, November 17, and reopening by 4:00 p.m. Friday, December 1.

The small lock will continue to operate during this time. It can handle vessels to 100 feet in length, 25-foot beam.

Do we want to have lunch at Chinooks at Fisherman's Terminal?
If so, munch about noon, out around 2:30 p.m., dark two hours later. I think I'll stay on the sweet water side. (I might have missed some posts.)

I think the only one at the last cruise that did any decorating was me. That is the Anna Leigh 22 in the picture. I just did a wreath on the bow and a string of 12V lights from bow to stern over the roof.

I'm new to the PNW and Puget Sound. How practical would it be to drive my boat from Anacortes to the Cruise, as opposed to trailering it?

Thanks,
Warren
