10/12 - 10/14 - Santa Barbara Seafood Festival

ok - The cruise packets are in the mail.
Please fill out the blue cards (yes- the vessel# is the state registration number "CF")
Return them to me in the stamped envelope provided with a check, made out to me, for the number of nights in Santa Barbara (1 or 2). The Harbor will only accept one check for payment.
If you haven't signed up for this cruise--- don't dispare. You can still cruise with us and stand a good chance of obtaining a slip upon arrival to Santa Barbara- it just won't be reserved.

Roger,

When do you need the cruise packets back? I wont get my flight schedule for October for about another week to see if I am off . Is that Ok?

Scott on Lil' Rascal

Thanks Ron,

I received reservations for Chris, Mike and Jeff (Green Bean) over the weekend. Should receive more in the next few days.
I'm just hoping I have a boat in time for the cruise.

Roger

Roger,

What happened to your boat? BTW my boat as off this Monday afternoon is still in the water from this weekend, as the hoist has been acting up! I can't tell if it is getting better or worse at the landing!

Boat?? Boat ?? Whatsa matter ??? Last I heard you were taking er home to clean it up...... did it get towed by the Citizens Committee against Roger n PJ/.... It was running well last time I saw it.... I see there is a almost new 25' for sale ..... maybe it's time fer you to trade up...

I don't know what happened- I noticed some salt crystals and wetness under the chine about where the bow strap of the hoist lifts the boat, both sides. Looks like there has been some damage and water was leaking through the gell coat in to the core. I checked the inspection port inside, under the porta potti- it was dry.
I had Bob look at it and he is going to have it dug out and repaired.

Joel- ya want to go to the dive club meeting at the Pirates grub & grog on Wed. 19th. If yer in town that is.

Roger

OK- Friday morning, Oct. 12- We will gather in front of the Catalina Yacht Anchorage / Anacapa Yacht Club located on the east side of the turning basin in Channel Islands Harbor at 0800 hrs.

We will make way to Painted cave (weather permitting) where we will anchor up for lunch, tour of the cave (for those that have a dinghy, or ride with someone) after that we will make way to Santa Barbara.

If the group decides that weather is too rough for a crossing we will head straight to S.B.

Upon arriving S.B., check in with the Harbor Patrol for slip assignments on VHS channel 12.

Friday afternoon we can relax and meet for dinner around 1800 hrs at the Endless Summer Cafe.

Saturday morning breakfast around 0800 hrs at the Waterfront Cafe. The Seafood Festival will get underway at 1000 hrs. Have lunch at your leasure. Dock party that evening- potluck- bring snacks.

Sunday morning - again breakfast at the Waterfront Cafe. Depart Santa Barbara around 1000 hrs.

Arrive Channel Islands Harbor and trailer yer boats. After wash down at the ramp, drive to the Catalina Yacht Anchorage / Anacapa Yacht Club where we will have a late lunch - early dinner before leaving for home.

This is a basic schedule and due to change

Roger.....I am still at the cabin....I got here Sat......it is so smokey that I haven't seen the sun ...... just an orange glow through the smoke....it's close...but I think I am quite safe.... especially since I live next to the firehouse.... I can hear the borate bombers go by,....but in the smoke I can't see em....

Dive Club ???? heck....come up and I will take ya diving here.... I wonder what this all looks like from underwater..... probably just dark.. but might have some nice colors...

This is really rotten about yer boat..... I better check mine close when I get home....when ever that is.

On Sat. I was riding through Reno and I saw the balloons all lined up getting ready for the races.... Jim (Pounder) told me that he was taking his balloon.

Joel,

We finally got some clear skies here- the Zaca Fire is out- after two months!

So- have you decided to get a pet coyote?

Have fun at the cabin- see ya next month.

Roger

Good news-- I'll have a boat in time for the S.B. cruise.
Boat repairs will be complete and the boat back in the yard by this weekend. The water was between layers of fiberglass. No water made it to the balsa core- great news.
Still don't know what caused the damage.

Roger

Looks like we will have a new Ranger 25 and CD 25 joining us in Santa Barbara. Catalina Yacht Anchorage got a couple of Rangers in - a 21 and 25.
A couple of months ago I invited a CC23 to join us on the cruise, he is thinking about it.
Fishtales is still on the hard, repairs are almost complete. Will be ready for a short cruise next week, up to Ventura for breakfast.

Roger

Been trying to figure for the after cruise dinner--- thinking of baking and poaching some halibut. That alright with everyone? Let me know.

Roger

The dinner will be at the Anacapa Yacht Club located upstairs at the Landing where we store the boat.
The dinner will be Sunday at around 1:30 - 2:00 after everyone has trailered and rinsed their boats.
When you leave the ramp area, turn right on Victoria and and we are about 1/2 mile.

Dinner will be;
Alaskan Baked Halibut
Poor Mans Lobster
Orso Salad
Green Salad
Sucotash
Dinner Rolls

Please feel free to bring some snacks for the dock party Saturday evening.

Roger

Suffer'n Succotash, that sounds great, Rog.

How's your boat? Last I saw, it was still up on blocks getting a tummy rub. From the looks of it, it would seem the guy who did the fiberglass layup fell asleep on the job, leaving a bunch of voids. Bad enough that it happened to your boat, but I wonder how many others he screwed up? Not to be negative here, but this seems to dramatically point out C-Dory's lagging attention to quality control, despite the many alerts made by owners. C-Dory seems hell bent on mass production, and damn the torpedoes! They need to slow down their growth, and pay more attention to detail. That attention is now being funneled into the new "Venture Series" 23', 26' 29', which look an awful lot like Cape Cruisers.
