Hey Terry, I"ll give you my best tip ever ---->->> Don't sleep on the Freeway. Stay safe on that night drive so we can see you @ FH.

We plan to launch this evening in Coronet Bay about 7:30-8pm and anchor right there for the night. Heading over first thing Friday. The winds look reasonable but if it looks a little to beat up west of Deception in the morning, we will head back and take the scenic route past La Conner and around Guemes and Cyprus to Peavine pass.

Down but not out! We left about noon for Squalicum Harbor with Daydream in tow. A mile down the road the hubs started smoking. As you may know, I do NOT cope with this kind of situation, as I have ZERO mechanical ability. Made it back home, called the garage in Ferndale that has been doing our car and truck repairs, and they do trailers as well. So we limped about 15 miles at 25 - 30 mph over backroads, and Daydream is now sitting at Willand's Auto Tech. We should hear some thing tomorrow. Still hoping to get to Friday Harbor by Saturday if not tomorrow!

On I5 northbound through Seattle. Had a Prius honk next to us - it was Kari (sp?) From C-Dancer saying hi! See everyone in Friday Harbor.

We have all had our share of trouble....today we had a near miss hauling Salty from Coronet Bay...however scared the bejabbers out of us. Just at the Welcome to Anacortes sign we hit a bump and the trailer came disconnected from the truck, Thank goodness no one was traveling directly beside us at the time. We did managed to come to stop at the very narrow shoulder and had to call 911 for police assistance so we could get hitched up again. Some minor damage to the trailer but we are all okay. Plan to launch in the morning and head to FH. Lesson learned...double check to make darned sure the hitch is securely attached. Craig has hauled trailers, both at his job with the phone company and at home at our ranch and said he has never had this happen before![/b]

That is scary and glad to hear that you are safe. How fast were you traveling when the trailer unhitched?

Looks like we will not be able to head out early enough to make it Friday. Our plan is now to leave Seattle around 6AM and be at Friday Harbor before noon in time to fish with Tom and the group.

Is there any problem with showing up on Saturday and still getting a slip near the other boats in the group. Where should latecomers attempt to tie up?

So glad you're all OK, Pat & Salty crew.

We'll get a late afternoon start from Twin Bridges tomorrow...need to wait out the tide. We expect to arrive about 5:30-6:00. Too close for dinner, so we'll likely catch up with you all when you wobble back to the docks.

Barry: Somehow we ended up with several C-dory vests that we'd like to contribute for the pot luck raffle.

Looking forward to seeing familiar faces and catching up. :)

The weather is clear and sunny. If you have to arrive on Saturday, no worries. We have spaces reserved for the group through Sunday. Just come in, head to "h" dock and some helpful brat will direct you to an open slip.

Thanks, Barry!

Hey, I just came across a great link from WA State Ferries I thought I'd share. It shows real-time wind data, as tracked by the ferries. We've often found that the marine forecast isn't always accurate. And, Smith buoy doesn't necessarily tell you about conditions in Rosario Strait. This includes ferry runs in Mid-Sound as well.

It's here: http://i90.atmos.washington.edu/ferry/Ferryjs/mainframe1.htm

BTW: Does anyone know where one would find notices about planned closings for the swing bridge on the Swinomish Channel? The USCG Notice to Mariners?

Would be good to add a link for that to our cruise planning references.

Our troubles are a bit more prosaic than those of the Daydream and Salty crews; The "mild sinus irritation" I've been fighting all week has become a full-blown head cold. I'm going to take it easy at home this morning, and depending on how I feel, we may head out later today, or early Saturday.

Thanks for the concerns everyone. We are fine. Don't know exactly how fast we were traveling but fast enough to scare the pants off us both. Called 911 and they dispatched an officer to flag for us until we were able to re hitch. All okay except for a very bent bracket on the bottom of the hitch. We are getting ready to launch at Cap Sante in a few minutes and be on our way.

We are just sitting here at Birch Bay having our third cup of coffee, everything is packed and ready to put back on the boat, waiting for the call from Willand's Auto Tech in Ferndale. Jim, the Willand service writer, used to work at Blaine Marine, and said this repair will be no problem, but the question is where it is in the their queue. Hoping for the best...

Got the call...80% chance it will be done today. It is new everything, the master cylinder was frozen, the brakes had been constantly being applied, that got everything hotter than a pistol, which is why the wheels were smoking, toasted the rotors, pads, bearings, etc., etc., etc. We have spent MORE on brakes and bearings on this trailer in the time we have had it than a new trailer would have cost. Oh well, there goes another one and a half boat units...

Barry:

Kari and I in El Gato Thomas, may or may not make it there by Friday evening. If Friday, it will be around 7 PM. If Saturday, around noon.

Will just show up to H dock and look for a place. Save us one.

Thanks,

Kevin & Kari Ware

For those on the way, "h" dock is fUll. No problem though, we have "g" dock out to slip 22 on one side and out to about slip 11 on the other. Just come in and go to "g".

After an EXPENSIVE day (turned out to be two boat units for all new brakes and hubs, and a good deal of that due to dealing with the mess our friend Gary Estes left behind), we are finally at P Dock at Squalicum! We will be casting off for Friday Harbor tomorrow at 9 a.m. We will have a guest on-board, Larry Grunden, who is interested in purchasing a C-Dory. We will head for G dock I guess!
