05/04 - 05/11 - Lake Powell

Kimshack- that should be a good tow rig. It would be good to make the trip before the price of gas is totally out of hand...it's a must do trip. Plan on two full days of driving each way.

Steve and GISMO C-16' have never been to Lake Powell. Chris and Rama Verda have. From what I understand the best time for Chris is May 4-May 11. He is the MAN 8) so I'm leave'n it up to him and others to deside the best date for all. I'm flexable althought I'm towing gismo to Alaska first week in June. I am having a hard time waiting and working.... :( You guys call it.

I'm screwing this up. My name is Steve, also. Set the dates and I'll be there. Where and when? I'll join you. Last of April is good for me. What dates and where. You call it. Some one has to!
Thanks

There are several Steve's! I think you have it right.

I think that Chris and you and maybe others are talking about going May 4th to 11th. I am thinking of getting there Monday or Tuesday of the week before - the last week of April.

I will probably leave Friday May 11th so I can get home Saturday, go back to work for a couple of days and then go to the Delta trip - I think the 15th.

I don't want to make a firm commitment at this point but that is what I am planning.

We will likely try to launch from the Antelope Canyon area - the new marina or the Indian run launch service. I also want to meet up with those launching on the 4th.

Steve

Seabran - sounds like the only constant is that Friday May 11 will be the haul out day, because of the Delta Cruise and other schedules. And that the majority will cruise from May 4 - May 11. So I am in and I will launch from Antelope Point. I may get there a few days early also, depending on what transpires between now and May.

What VHF channel is the best to monitor for C-Brats?

Well...it can be tough to get this kind of thing firmed up...what with people coming from all over the country! To some of us (still working types) the dates are real important...and to others (retired types) it's which gathering do I want to go too? Someday.

I'll be travelling to Powell on the 3rd of May...arriving late in the day. Might launch that night...maybe the next day. So that means the start of cruising May 4th. I will launch at Wahweap. We can plan on a meeting place elsewhere...say Antelope...or even Dangling Rope...if that helps. I'll be pulling out late Friday the 11th so as to be on the road back home early Saturday. This would also allow plenty of time to travel over to Rio Vista for the Delta Gathering on the 15th.

VHF channel...most of us always guard channel 16...so that is a good choice for hailing. We usually pick another channel for our chatter...say channel 68...but this can change...usually if somebody has already claimed 68...like the fishing tournament or regatta.

Kimshack...your tow rig sounds fine. The Ranger 21 isn't a real tough tow. I've pulled my 22 many thousands of miles with a GMC K1500 with a 4.8...tows very comfortably. Had to pull it down a gear or two on some of those 9% grades they like in British Columbia. The trip over to Powell doesn't have any real challenging highways...so you should have no problem.

Lake Powell is truly fantastic cruising. Join us if you can!

Steve,

I hope to arrive April 30th Monday. I may not launch until Tues. May 1st.

I will want to get an early start for home on Firday may 11th.

I will post before I leave incase things change.

Steve

Having a hard time passing up the Lake Powell gathering. We may still make it, and then go on to the Delta. Trying to talk Wild Blue into coming along for both. Will have to wait and see what happens. We are still in Islamorada and have to get home first.

Sign us up....Gismo, Sydney and Steve will be at Lake Powell about May 1st. Never been there so we will find out where to launch between now and then. See ya!

We are planning to be there whenever everyone (or most everyone) else is there which, if understand correctly, is May 4-11.

I don't yet know where we will launch. We want to head up into Utah to see family after so we may try to get to Bullfrog. It's been a long time since I have been to Powell and I disremember where everything is.

(Added later: After reviewing a map, we most likely will launch at Wahweap also. Since I have never been there, would appreciate some guidance on what's available for parking the rig when we are on the water.)

Warren...Wahweap has huge parking lots for trucks and trailers and it's included with your lake permit...which was $15 for a week last time I was there...or you can buy a permit for a year if you think you might go back within 12 months. There is a campground there also if you want to camp...or you can put the boat in the water and stay at the guest dock. Also a hotel and restaurant...and a pizza place. Also a gas station which always seems to have gas at a good price compared to the stations in town. Page has all the stores...WalMart...big grocery stores...several restaurants.
Steve...you may want to order Sydney the Stan Jones map of Lake Powell. Just Google it...lots of places sell them over the net. $7-$8. Might help pass the time and you will definitely want this map on the water. Also lots of good info on the sights to see.
Discovery...hope you and Wild Blue can make it...not too far out of your way...eh? Would like to see the look on the rangers face when you tell him the last water you were in.

Actually they will have to have the bottom of the boats pressure washed/steam cleaned--since they have been in the Water East of the Mississippi--(Zebra Muscle problem--even though they are not in Florida).

Gismo will be there by May 1st. I hope Wild Blue will make this trip. I met that boat one day up here at Lake Tahoe. It's hughes at 25'. I was even invited aboard to look. The weather forcast for May 1st thru. May 15th is for light winds in the morning and 5-10 in the afternoon. Temps to be in the low 50's at night and mid 70 in the afternoon hours. Can't beat that!
Fuel prices are to fall to $1.79 per gallon on the water.
See you there....

$1.79 for gas ??? Last weekend I paid $3.25 a gallon in Death Valley...now I know why they call it Death Valley... Luckily I was riding my motorcycle so I didn't need much.... probably need a home loan if I had a big motorhome..

$1.79??? We just paid $2.85 at a marina on Key Largo. Gas station on land prices seem to be running $2.39 and up in the Keys. Still, it beats the $4.50/gallon we paid in the San Juans last summer.

Best wishes,
Jim B.
