04/30 - 05/02 - Lopez Island Opening Weekend

OK, let's bring this one back towards the front of the line. What are we going to put on the end of our main line to fish for ling cod and what method will we use?

Dana....Hi! My name is Diane and I don't think that we have met yet. I am the Office Manager of the Sports Medicine Center and Day Surgery Center!! I have the hook-up for the wheel chair!! I will have to check and make sure that an extra is available, but I think that we can work something out!! Let me know is it is really something that you want for the weekend :P Don't want to tote it along if you would rather hitch a ride on any available guy...I wouldn't want to take that pleasure away from you. Keep in touch :!:

Another subject.........Jeff and I are wondering when and where people are leaving from, date and time, etc. We would like to tag up with someone for the journey. We are open and flexable. Want to leave the truck in a safe place, though. We also want to make sure that we are not traveling in the dark

Can't wait for the weekend. Thursday we complete our "Coastguard Safety Class" and the 26th we complete our navagation class. We will know exactly enough to be dangerous and paranoid :!:

We sure enjoyed meeting all of you at Jarrell's Cove. Looking forward to meeting the rest of the bunch.

Jeff :beer and Diane :lips

Hi Diane, We will be leaving for Lopez sometime Friday AM from Twin Bridges Marina which is under the twin bridges on Hwy 20 on the way to Anacortes. You could launch at the Skagit County launch under the bridges & leave your truck & trailer at Twin Bridges Marina for $10 for both nights. Should you want to do this you will need to call the marina at 360-466-1443 & make arrangements. I guess this is a long way of saying that you are welcome to join us for the trip.

Don't suppose anyone has a wheelchair? I was thinking of wheeling her around in one of those dock wagons, but that's not exactly up to Princess's standards...

Dana, I don't know why I didn't think of it before, but when Diane came up with her generous offer of a wheelchair for you, I suddenly remembered that I have a folding military stretcher in the garage that I could bring and we could scrounge a few throw pillows to "dress it up a bit" so it wouldn't be so "drab" in appearance and we could all take turns shuttling you between the boat and the bar, the boat and the swimming pool, the boat and the bar....etc. etc. etc.

Now after my comment above, I'll probably have to bring the stretcher for myself after Dana gets a hold of me..... :crook

Dana, seriously, hope you're mending well.

Jon - Ken is right...I would not LIVE to see Lopez if I ate all the salmon before Patty and Austin get back from their European jaunt. Not that I could eat it all of course. I did cook up some of the ragged pieces left over after steaking and fileting and they were DELICIOUS! I realize just how lucky we were - did not realize until we were back at the dock on Sunday that apparently nobody else in the group had any fish? Beginner's luck for us, for sure - and like I say, huge credit to Larry and Lyle.

B~C,
Suppose he ate all that salmon yet :smilep.

Yeah, sort of...I also remember JJ Dory's (Jeff Johnson, where did he go, didn't he used to post here?) ling cod hot off the BBQ at Lopez last year - that was one of the best fish I had ever tasted! So how we gonna catch these ugly beasts so we can cook them up?

Hi Diane,

Bill finally got me to login and reply to a message, given the high importance of your offer! I only had 4,000 unread messages :(. Anyway, thank you for the offer; I would like to borrow the wheel chair. My dr. said it looks like when I move to the brace/cast thing, I'll be able to put weight on the foot (originally, he said no weight for six weeks), but I doubt he's thinking I would go on long walks! I really appreciate the offer and if it falls through for any reason, Bill can drive me to shopping! :)

I look forward to meeting you and Jeff, Bill has told me a lot about you two.

Dana

Hi Diane,

The Lynn Marie crew is stopping off at E.Q. Marine on Friday morning before going to Lopez by ferry. If you want to get the chair to Lopez without strapping to the boat we'd be happy to transport it across if you can drop it off to Les.

Tim

Hi Dave,

The stretcher suggestion is great, except everyone would want a ride and then what would the princess do? :)

I'm mending fine, I think. The dr. said it looked good when he slapped the cast on, so that's encouraging.

I'm looking forward to Lopez! The day we fly to WA is the day I get a brace-like cast thing (I have no idea what it's called) and supposedly I can put some weight on my foot - wee.

Re coming after you, I must say my arms are getting strong and I'm learning to use the crutches for things like turning off lights and keeping Bill "along" ... No telling what I'll be doing by Lopez.

Dana

Well heck, my wife has to work that weekend.... no getting out of it. I have to cancel the Lopez gig. Y'all have a fun & safe weekend.

Well...my folks are in town, and after hearing talk about the trip, my Pop decided he had to join us; he'll be flying up with Dana and me. He's even older than Dave, if you can believe that...

When I mentioned our primary activity was sitting on the dock, eating and drinking, he was intrigued. When I suggested a certain C-Brat just might have a Cuban for him, the hook was set...

So - you all get to meet the original Nerd! See you all next week.

By the way, is he follically challenged too?
No way - the old dude has more hair than you and me combined. There's been talk of a milk man in my past...

Speaking of a Milkman, Marty and I will not be making the Lopez gathering again this year. I remembered just how cold and wet it can still be this time of year. Un-like Bill and Dana, we did not upgrade our 19 footer over the winter. We still have too walk around in water on the floor and rely on portable heat that's not safe to operate while your sleeping. Maybe we'll just have to make a day trip to see everyone.
Have a great time ya'll.
Oh yea, as you can read, this had nothing to do with a milkman.
