04/30 - 05/02 - Lopez Island Opening Weekend

Well, since it looks like it will be such a beautiful weekend, we are heading over to Lopez on Saturday morning. We plan to take the ferry over and just camp out on Saturday night. Hopefully this will be our last C-Brat gathering without our new boat! See you Saturday.

If you return to Skyline after 3pm on Sunday, you will have to opperate the sling launch yourself. I may drop my annual pass for the sling at Skyline and just go with Washington Park this year and see how it goes. Tempting to keep the new trailer out of the salt water though....

Skylines # is 360-293-5134

Jeff & Diane, call me on my cell phone Friday morning before you get in the water & we'll coordinate our meeting outside of Cap Sante Marina. David, I'll give you a call on channel 16--should be around 9:30.

Wade I should be at Twin Bridges at 09:00, I guess we will have a flotilla of at least 4 boats. I am going to go thru Obstruction Pass and get fuel at Blakely on my way to Fisherman Bay, could be a nice cruise for the new folks.

Fred,

Am I right in assuming launching at Cornet Bay requires going through Deception Pass to get to Lopez Island? If you can talk my wife into it, the boat and I are ready.

Bill & Evelyn,

Les, Dusty and Kathy are by far the best source of advice I know of regarding Deception Pass, but the few times we have been through the pass have been very smooth. From what I understand, with our planning hull boats having such shallow drafts and decent size motor(s) the Pass is not as threatening as it is for a slow displacement hull boat whose slow speed may not be able to overcome the current flow. Due to our first timer's concern, the pass was harder on us mentally than it ever was on the boat. Just don't try and cruise through one of the whirpools. If you can time yourself to go out with some other C-Brats, that should really help ease those first time jitters. If not, wait for some other boaters and watch how they do it or follow them through. You can also arrive early, find a parking spot near the bridge, grab a pair of binoculars and watch from above. The launch ramp at Cornet Bay is one of the better "first timer" ramps that we have used as it is well protected from the weather.

I am with Dave. The first time you go thru is more stressful for you than the boat. If you wait for the slack at Deception Pass it is a breeze. If you Launch at Cornet and do not feel comfortable you can always go up the Swimonish Channel thru LaConnor and out by Cap Sante. Just make sure you stay in the channel. With all the CBrats around on Friday I am sure you will have some help no matter were you launch.

Fred,

Jeff wants to know where you are putting in? Are you putting in at La Conner? What time? We are going to leave from here tomorrow some time to get up there. Probably spend the night in the truck and be ready for early Friday morning. The less stress the better :!:

Diane, I have my boat at Twin Bridges Marina. It is at the north end of the Swinomish Channel by the twin bridges that go over to Fidalgo Island on Highway 20. There is a launch under the bridge and parking has been arranged by DaveS at the marina for the weekend. If you are going to launch there let me know and I will wait around to hear from you guys before I leave Friday. I was planning to get under way by 09:30.

Today was the first chance I've had to start "loading" the new ride, so I've still got lots to do. I work a 24 Hr shift starting in the morning at 0900 and get off at 0900 Friday, then I'll finish packing the boat. When Carol and Jessica get home from Work/School on Friday, I hope to be ready to "head out".
I'm thinking that we'll launch under the Twin Bridges providing Twin Bridges Marina will allow us to park in their lot.
Wade, if my memory serves me right, you said that they would allow that. What is the name of the person I need to talk to? and how late will they be open on Friday?

FOOD!!! For Saturday night's potluck we'll bring a tossed green salad. I still haven't quite figured out how to get the BBQ kettle over there....and it completely slipped my mind until now. It doesn't appear that I'm going to have room for it on SSSS. Is anyone that is driving all the way over able to bring one? If they don't have one to bring, but are willing to bring my Weber Kettle BBQ, they can swing by my house on Friday and take mine.

Durn, I hate it when I forget important stuff like that!!!!. Guess, I've been too busy on the new boat!

Sounds like around 4 boats heading out in the neighborhood of 9am Frid from Twin Bridges. The official C-Brat Puget Sound chat channel is 68. Will be monitoring both 16 and 68 for the mini-pod passing. Will join you off the SE tip of Guemes.

Should be crossing Rosario heading forThatcher Pass about a half hour later if anyone is coming out of Washington Park.

See you all in the morning or later.

We will be leaving Friday afternoon just as soon as I get home from a 1:00 pm meeting in Blahview, probably between 4:00 and 5:00, heading for Twin Bridges as well. We will launch at the County site under the bridges and park at the marina. I talked to the folks at the marina yesterday, they said check in at the office and get a guest pass if anyone is still there (doubtful in my case) or just leave a note. I guess they decided no charge...

We will be driving up tonight, (Thurs) staying in the boat and launching Friday morning. Do they allow over night parking at the boat ramp by Twinn Bridges? If not, any where else in the general area?
Filled up the truck and the boat last night. At $1.95/gal. :cry , talk about sticker schock  ouch!

In our neck of the woods (Fall City / Snoqualmie, WA, 25 miles east of Seattle) we are paying $2.03 - $2.05 per gallon for regular... :(

Thanks, Doug - the damage is done, I fried the tiny little toggle switch trying to solder the wires to it, so got no switch, but the lights are stuffed up under the lip and they do work...

PS.
Pat, I'll bring my tools if you haven't installed the light yet.

We hope to hitting the water by 7pm Washington Park on Saturday! This will be our sea trial in our new, yet to be named, gray CD22. Hopefully we'll be pulling in to our slip BEFORE the sun goes down! Looking forward to getting this boat in the water, and seeing all of you and yours.
