03/06 - 03/08 - Indian Cove, South Sound

The Priests are planning to join the group for Friday & Saturday nights.
Based on recent Sequim weather we're wondering if we ought to bring a snow shovel and de-icer.
BTW, we'll be accompanied by Sara, our Golden Retriever, and wondering if this poses any problems finding a tie directly to a float or will we expect to raft?

Sorry to hear about the boat problems and that you won't be able to make it. Hope things work out and we get to meet up with you soon.

I am hoping to have most people in a slip - so no problem. My Rott-Lab Bear will be there as well - part of the time. Please bring plastic bags to pick up dog litter - dogs must be on leash [in most areas including dock] while you are here. Bear looks forward to meeting Sara - I bet she could give him a few lessons on swimming.

Have a safe trip

There is - I kid you not - a boat launch in Tacoma called "Ole and Charlie's Marina," which says it has 24/7 self-service boat launching. Does anybody know about this? Ever tried it? Des Moines still has a sling but in the winter it is closed on weekends - huh? Have to talk to the City Manager about THAT one!

Nearest reliable Honda dealer, mechanic -
Pickering Marine - owner is Dudley - 360-427-7876
Less than 50 yards from the State Park boat ramp at Bridge to Harstine Island [West side] Pickering strait

If you come from N sound through the Narrows or from Olympia you may come up Case Inlet - use caution if you pass between McMicken Island and Harstine as the sand spit connects the two at low tide.

The water is quite shallow on the North end of Harstine Island so stay clear of N end when rounding the Island

If you come up Pickering Strait between Harstine and Squaxin the older GPS's don't map the sand bars very well N of Squaxin on Harstine Island side.

There are several unmarked submurged shell fish structures about 4 foot high in a couple of bays on E Squaxin island that would damage a lower unit.

You may enjoy walking several miles of beach - at low tide if you bring boots

I will PM my contact information Wed PM to registered CBRATS

Looking forward to seeing CBRATS -

Have a safe trip.

The sling launch in Des Moines is open in the winter, even on weekends, shorter hours. But it sounds like it is closing for good this Sept. Once again high dollar condos win out for space. The city also doubled the price to sling, $30 for a 22' last year. I think they wanted to make sure usage would drop before they pulled the plug.

Sandra and I will not make it now, after much anticipation for our 2nd C-Brats outing. I had to take C-Joy to the Boat Hospital and it looks like she will not get out in time.

Have Fun.

Randy and Sandra, we are not going to get to be there either. So....   Let's plan on the Friday Harbor (May 7-9)for sure :thup

Well, Friday looks like the best day out of the three. On Sat we are expecting 70% chance of rain, West wind of between 8-11mph and overnight temps as low as 30F.
The good news is that we will have a clubhouse nearby all be it with a few tarp walls. Gas lights, cooking and some heat will be provided and we can have a fire. Also, with power at the dock we get to enjoy electric heat.

I am fighting off a cold, but plan to be there for the three days.

The WX on the Straits doesn't look too good for tomorrow so we're leaving this afternoon and will overnight at Port Townsend. Thursday night at Brownsville and then on to the CBGT Friday. See you all there.

I just returned from a few hours out cruising and fishing. A beautiful windless day on the south sound. Friday should be much the same if the forecast holds.

I have packed some firewood in the boat as I think we will need the warmth of a nice fire.

I will leave here Friday am, and should be at Indian Cove by the afternoon. Looking forward to the gathering. It will be a bit cool, but power at the slip will be oh so nice!

As far as an activity for Sat, I guess I will just wait to see what the weather brings. At the very least, sitting around a campfire wouldn't be half bad. :D

I'd hoped to boat to this one because I love South Sound and jeez, Robbi's been gobbling up oodles of island fun down there for as long as I've known her. Following her year-round exploits is marvelous entertainment, but how much vicarious living can one man digest?

It's early March, I'm of middle-age and a warm Saturday drive this weekend sounds just right. Still, given today's our 20th anniversary, a three day saltwater honeymoon would be a better gift for Bambina. Flowers felt facetious, chocolate a cliche', so Bambina took a smooch to the prow. Soon a more complete expression of sentiment can manifest: a cruise!

Be safe, everyone, and I'll see you Saturday.

Well, it looks as though we're gonna bow out of this one. :sad You've done a great job of planning this shindig Jim. I have no doubt loads of fun will be had by all.

Hope to see y'all in Friday Harbor, if not sooner.

Peter & Caryn

For those launching near South Sound

Case Inlet on the East of Hartstine Island and
Pickering on the West of Hartsine Island may vary considerable when windy.

Pickering is usually more protected

Be safe

Here is what the weather guessers say - Friday and Sunday don't look bad, or at least tolerable, and we'll be in the slip on Saturday probably anyway...
