the best dogs really are mutts. They are nearly always free, generally more intelligent and healthier than over-bred (ie, in-bred) "pure" breeds, better disposition, etc..
I really don't know what a C-25 or a Tomcat cost --- though a 31k price differential does suggest that its quite a bit --- but I am really suprised to read about the use of "ferris" fittings screwed into the hull without sealant and that it is expected (and accepted) that fixing leaks is a given...

a think of beauty! Unfortunately, this isn't my boat (or more to the point, me on it). :sad
We all like our boats but don't expect miracles. By miracles I mean don't expect the company to put a lot more into the boats than they need to to keep them rolling out the door. So long as they have a long list of buyers then the very first priority will likely be to keep the boats moving...
Well, if you/he want a better idea of the real estate prices then a pretty good website is:
http://www.rustypost.com/property-for-sale.html
Its Orcas-centric and I don't know this guy but its one of the easier to navigate sites (and real estate websites are some of the worst).
What sort of...
Too little information to make any concrete suggestions but from what I know the schools are considered to be quite good, the real estate stratospheric and decent paying jobs a bit scarce. A single-wide mobile home on 1/5 of an acre will set you back just shy of $300K on Orcas, maybe even a bit...
Actually, it was the previous post by ... flapbreaker(?) which kind of connected the two. Dead zones like that off the mouth of the Mississippi are almost 100% certainly (which really means its a good bet) caused by too much nitrogen fertilizer and perhaps by some less than effective waste...
Global warming (which you presumably are referring to) isn't a uniform phenomena (some locations may actually cool down, some get more rain, others less). Some might even argue, though incorrectly, that your unseasonable weather is itself evidence for something being "up" with the climate...
From the BBC Science/Nature website:
"This year could see the biggest "dead zone" since records began form in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
Scientists say conditions are right for the zone to exceed last summer's 6,662 sq miles (17,255 sq km)."...
A couple of gallons of suitable bottom paint (eg, West Marine BottomPro)
will cost you <$400, add roller, suit, gloves and a couple of hours of your
time and there you go. Painting the bottom isn't rocket-science (I repaint
my 27' sailboat every season).
unless I had the cash to junk one boat and buy another would I get within 10% of the stated load capacity of a crane (the so-called safety margin isn't yours to "spend"),
There must be somewhere else you can launch?
Piece in today's Seattle Times mentions a "dead zone" developing off the coast of OR and WA. News to me, and not good news if true:

in their most recent edition. They favored Furono and Raymarane FWTW. The most notable thing is that the Garmin unit they tested (3010 + gmr40) had half the warranty period of all the other sets. Given their relatively new entry into this arena that'd be one point of concern for me. (Do...

I use the PC version but they do have one for Windows CE. I do question though whether the dimnunitive screen on these things is adequate. The only upside for OziE (and the like) is that you can scan and calibrate your own charts rather than laying out big bucks...
Gack! Do folks really think all this extra hardware (bow and stern thrusters, remote control, etc) is neccessary (or even desirable) on a 25' boat? I would think that in most cases a single line off of a midship cleat could be used to hold the boat close enough to a dock, long enough to get...
While few people have significant complaints concering their boats, or factory support, you would not want to put C-Dory (or the board) into a conflict of interest situation.
I am sure that if the folks running the board asked for $$ they would find plenty of cash floating their way.
The question is how to generate a user based owners manual in the absence of a C-Dory supplied one. It might/should also contain the collective knowledge of the user base. Wiki's are one approach:
