C-Dory Owner's Manual?

Reading through another thread somewhere there was a reference to the subject document. I received a ton of literature, but not this manual. Anybody know where I can get one for a CD22? Is there any important information in there I might need to know?

thanx,

Ken, I don't think there is such a critter. There are manuals on the installed stuff, either from the dealer or on the internet, like the engine, bilge pump, etc. Nothing that I know of on the whole boat though.

There was one - don't know if it's still handed out or not.

When I bought my 19 Angler, I was given both a 16 and 22 manual, as there was nothing specific to the 19 yet. A while later, I was sent a 19 manual.

That being said...I don't recall getting one with my 22, they may have stopped handing them out.

I got one with my new CD22 Sealife. Pretty basic information, but you should be able to get a copy by calling or writing the factory.

We received an "owner's manual" also but as others have pointed out, it really wasn't much. My C-Dory was my first boat and I have to admit I was expecting much more (since my only comparison was to cars, household appliances etc). Now (after having the boat for 3 years), I understand that many things I would have hoped to have an owners manual explain to me are not covered in the manual C-Dory provides due to the fact that the parts the need the most maintenance and/or explanation are typically custom or vary from boat to boat depending on rigging.

However, I really do think that SOME aspects could be more standardized and perhaps some aspects of rigging should be taken on primarily be the factory. In particular (as I have expressed elsewhere) I would like to see a basic electrical system and wiring harness prepared at the factory so that at least PART of the electrical system was consistently laid out and clearly documented. I also recognize that the electrical system is also perhaps the part of the boat the varies the most from one installation to the next as owners have widely varying ideas about what electronics to install and how to configure house batteries etc. None-the-less, the electrical system is one of the more complex parts of the boat to trace and follow if it was installed in a completely undocumented way and if the installer was not anal retentive about labeling wires and making the install clean. My electrical system was done using the factory installers and in retrospect, I would have rather done it myself so that it was cleaner and documented.

My guess is that some standardizing would require that the factory create a few "standard packages" (like cars) with an expandable bus for additional installations and that this would add some to the base price of the boat. My guess would also be that the documentation of the system would reduce the number of phone calls to the factory from customers who find they can't answer the simplest of questions on their own. Such as "Where's the connector for the shore power? - I couldn't find it on my own and it wasn't in any owner's manual (neither was a good explanation of the breaker panel or the locations of all the fuses, nor an explanation of what was hard wired to batteries and what was switched, etc....).

I agree it might be nice to put together some owner created manual in the form of a wiki or other evolving document but the basic problem in making such a thing valuable is the lack of standardization on all levels. To some extent, the C-Brat site + a search tool + the ability to ask all the other smart people here is already a good "owner's manual" (especially the ability to ask others....). :thup

That last post  really hit the nail on the head...

The electrical stuff is driving me crazy. Don't know what is switched and what is not. Takes hours, even days, to figure it out. If I had purchased from a dealer I would have insisted on a wiring diagram!

Scott, I think one of us could .pdf for them for you and post them on the site. Any objections to that? Would save quite a bit on copying, mailing costs and provide a good source for potential owners. I bet if you sent a copy to Da Nerd or Assistant Nerd they could do that. A "soft" copy would be best if you've got it.

thanx Scott... and thanx to your partner Jeff who sent me a copy of the owners manual which is already in .pdf formmat.

Good idea to add it to the site if the facdory peeps say it is OK to do so...

Ken, can you post it or send it to me by e-mail and I will do it. We need to make sure that it's not copyrited and that we have permission from the
C-D folks before we do.

Charlie

Hi Bill,

You are the man! I downloaded, saved and printed out the manual even though it's for a new boat than C-Farer. Lots of good general information in there, too.

Thanks,
Pat
