Would this fit and work well in the cockpit of a C-Dory

No, it really does not overly stress the bow rail and I'm 6'1" and about 180 lbs. As I said, it is really quite comfortable. And being in the bow, one catches any breeze as opposed to being in the cockpit. Plus the thing rolls up into a bundle no more than 8" in diameter, so it's easy to store. Al

Would this fit and work well in the cockpit of a C-Dory

Ok, here's the scoop: The cargo net measures a mere 3' x 6 '. On the edge nearest the cabin roof, is a 1" dowel cable tied to the net, to act as a spreader bar. That end of the net is fastened to the forward ends of the roof rails with cinch straps so that the spreader bar just clears the...

Would this fit and work well in the cockpit of a C-Dory

You are undoubtedly one cool dude if you have a shirt like his! I do not, however, have another photo as that’s about the only angle I can shoot from on board and get anything. Just lash one corner each to each top rail and the other two under the anchor roller, or even to the bow eye if you...

Would this fit and work well in the cockpit of a C-Dory

Check out the photo "Big Bear's Hammock" in the MOOSE album. I bought a small chunk of cargo net that can be attached to the forward end of each roof rail, drooped over the bow rails, and cinched under the bow roller. I use cargo straps of webbing for easy adjustment. This works like a charm...

    Tips for fishing Isle Royale

Years ago we canoed extensively in Northern Ontario. I always said if I had to chose one lure it would be a Mepps spinner. They come in different sizes and colors, but pack easily and are effective for all sorts of species. Bring a few wire leaders if you think some of the inland lakes have...

    Lake Superior Beckons, Again

Bonnie Dahl's book is an excellent resource. But keep in mind that the Dahl's are sailors and draw significantly more water than a C-Dory. Superior levels appear to be up quite a bit this year as well. Al

Yep its been cold in parts of Canada this winter

Most of December has been colder than normal for us too, with no end in sight. We've hit -37F straight temperature so far. We could use a little global warming, at least locally.

    Big Blow On Lake Superior

The first big blizzard of the season is moving out of the Great Plains today and out over Lake Superior. I looked at the NOAA marine forecast for the lake last night and it predicted, in some portions, winds to 55 knots and waves 17-22 feet! I recall reading about one of the last radio...

    Setting my anchor troubles

It is a good anchor and normally holds quite well. We have 20 feet of chain and I put out all the rode I can. The anchorage I describe, however, is a narrow cut between two islands and one can only put out so much of it to avoid swinging into shore. Having said that, in a lot of situations...

    Setting my anchor troubles

Depending upon the density of weedy bottom, that could be part of your problem as well. We have a delightful, protected anchorage on NW Lake Superior that we like to use. The water is 11-13' deep, but the bottom is covered in dense weeds that make it almost impossible to get a good anchor set...

SOLD - Sea Wolf is Ready for a New Skipper!

I'm sorry to hear you must sell your boat, Joe. But I recall Bill Fiero saying, when he and El sold Halcyon, that it will happen to us all someday. Best regards and wishes, Al

    Beware of Burgee Shoppe.com

If you sent him a check by USPS, go see your local postmaster. Defrauding by mail is a big no-no. I did that when I was a kid, after sending a check to a now long-defunct sleeping bag company. The postmaster wrote them a letter while I was sitting there and I had my check back in short order. Al

    Two Bears is home again.

It sounds like a great trip.....except for all that driving! If you have not read it, you might really enjoy Jonathan Raban's Old Glory: An American Voyage. While not in a C-Dory, the book is about Raban's 1979 trip down the Mississippi from St. Paul to New Orleans and beyond in a 16' open...

saying farewell to my many C-Dory friends

John, when Myrna and I bought the MOOSE in 2002 and joined the C-Brat society, you became a friend to me. You offered us advice on modifications, many of which I incorporated and which still serve well. We have spoken of you many times over the years and still value our association with you...

    Camper Canvas ??

We have a Proctor Canvas top and it is very well made and works as it should. They have experience on C-Dories. But, like Jay, our HDPE strip cracked. I was able to order a similarly sized strip of Starboard (sorry, I don't remember from where). I then made a wooden template with the same...

    Lake Superior Bayfield area

Bob, we're familiar with the coast from Thunder Bay to Rossport, including the Slate Islands, and years ago canoed the Pukaskwa (NE) shore a couple times. If you decide to visit the Canadian shore, let me know and I will help you any way I can. Al
