    bottom paint

It's good to ask around your area as to what works. Some paints seem to work better in some waters than others. Ablatives seem to work well most places and they save you from having to sand off layers of dead paint some number of years from now. Mike

    Shore power possible short

The charger should be wired to the 12V ground. If there is an internal leak of 120V -> 12V ground in the charger, you could be experiencing this problem. Assuming the wiring is correct, the leak would have to involve some resistance, otherwise the 120V breaker would trip. Mike

    rubrail coming loose

One idea I'd like to offer: Use #10 stainless screws with nyloc on the inside. Don't worry about the length initially, but rather come back later and use a Dremmel with a cutoff wheel to get the screws to the exact length needed. Maybe even #8. I'm going to have to do this too, since I have...

    Stern Thruster quit

Waterwitch switches are great. They are electronic sensor based. It is a block of epoxy with two silver washers exposed ad three wires coming out. I have mine set so just about every last drop gets sucked up. Mike

    Throttle cables bent

Wasn't being careful the other day and tilted the motor with a fender between the head and the splash well. Bent the throttle cables pretty good. I was able to bend them by hand and they also straightened some by themselves. However, shifting just isn't as smooth as it was. I don't see any...

Water intrusion from trim tab mounting?

You really should drill, cut the core back a bit, fill with epoxy and then drill and install the screws. I don't know for certain what Bob did, but I would bet a lot that this is what he did. There are longer explanations in the archives should you need more info. Mike

    Considering used CD22

I wonder how much the size of the people involved matters? At 5'9", 195lbs, I am not too big, and my wife is small, too. But, if we were both large people - 250+, would we find a CD-22 acceptable? Anyhow, every year we add things to make the boat more livable. This year, we've added interior...

    Purchasing a used C-Dory vs. Nada.com value

A CD-22 should qualify as a second home (which is what you are doing if you write off a boat loan) if you use the boat as a second home. You can then write off the interest paid - unless you already have a second home. Your other option is to buy it with a home equity loan, which would allow...

quiet, smooth riding, good gas mileage

Al, My CD-22 certainly gets better milage off plane. Something like 8 mpg off plane, and 3.6-4.1 mpg planing. At really slow speeds - less than .5 gph, the flow meter does not register. I think that's about 4mph...? I forget exactly. At those speeds, current is a major factor that you have...

quiet, smooth riding, good gas mileage

A fuel flow meter that can use GPS data will give you mpg, which is what you really want. Surprisingly, my mpg does not vary much with speed with rpms running anywhere from 3800-4600 or so. That's with a Honda 90, 5400 max rpm. I also installed a little gauge that helps you know when the boat...

    C-Dory has been sold

This past weekend, we had a near 20 boat raftup on a local river approx. a 5 mile ride at most, for 90% of those attending. For the past 15 years, many of those boats went to St. Michaels, a 70 mile ride? We were one of the few boats that just rode around for the heck of it. Mke

    Interior finish questions

The wood in my photos is Brazilian Cherry. I like it a great deal. It is a bit brittle, so when screwing into it, make sure your holes are large enough. It was something like $5 bd/ft, s2s. It was easy to get in 5-8" widths. It machines very nicely, although it is hard so your tools need to...

    VHF Radio and Antenna

The Icom 422 is a nice radio, but it is a devil to deal with the wires that connect to the GPS. The wires are coaxial, which means you have a wire braid carrying the negative and a core wire inside carrying the positive. The wires are very small and difficult to solder. I would avoid dealing...

    Roof Questions

I've been on the roof of our CD-22 before. Seemed fine. I don't walk on it - I would want to avoid such a 'point load', but sitting on it or laying out seems fine. Mike

    Speakers for in cabin

We went with the West Marine equivalent of the MA-7000? I think that is the correct number. See my photo album. I am really glad I installed them up under the forward shelf. The speakers sound OK for small box speakers. They do not block my vision at all. Mike

    All chain rode for CD?

It does come up every once in a while. Cutter Marine in Maryland used to rig at least some of their boats that way. I had an all chain rode when I bought the boat. Mike

    CD 22 Cutaway Photos

Nope. I took those the day I bought my CD-22 and was never back to Cutter. Didn't think to ask that day. Now they are no longer a dealer, so I suppose the hull isn't there any more. Maybe someone that lives closer or keeps a boat there can ask? Mike

cracks, leaks, foam, and old bad work.

Bob did a through tear-down, to say the least. I'd say he knows exactly what is wrong and the results are well documented on this site. Just guessing: but I doubt the manufacturer tried to saved money on plywood. Most likely they could not keep workers that knew what they were doing or were...
