    C-Dory vs Ranger 21EC

Pat, Having owned a 2006 Ranger 21'tug and now owning a 1985 C-Dory 22' classic, I can tell you that both are great boats and you can not go wrong with either. It is very important to be truthful with yourself about your intended use for the majority of the time. Jim hit the nail on the head...

    05/14 - 05/16 - Friday Harbor

As usual this site is so responsive to questions members have. I really appreciate the three that responded to me and both the wife and I can hardly wait to see if we can get it all planned to make the trip. As I get it in line I would like to PM you for more questions. Thanks again and hope to...

    05/14 - 05/16 - Friday Harbor

Having never been to the PNW and certainly not Friday Harbor, my wife are strongly considering flying up for this event. Any advice you could give, such as where to fly into (Seatle?), how to get to Friday Harbor (ferry?), available motel (near event?), trips to take days after event(ferry?)...

    Binoculars with built-in compasses

While shopping, take a look at image stabilized binoculars. My wife gave me a pair of Cannon 15x50 and it is unreal the difference in river cruising to read mile markers, bouy markers and general viewing. Ron

    Teak question

Joe,Sea Wolf had a post some time back showing great results with marine varnish on his teak. I recently took his advice and applied 8 coats on my '85 Classic rails and got very good looking results. This is probably more work than keeping them oiled but to me was worth the extra effort. Ron

    V-berth cushion

The V-Berth cushion in my '85 Classic had been wet and stained so it was replaced with a good 4" foam and a good auto seat fabric. Did not feel that sumbrella was needed and this is very comfortable. With our type use it should last a long time. The porti-potty was moved out and a storage drawer...

    Boats you have owned

Never on a boat until I was 41. Now have tried several types and now retired with a C-Dory. Fits the settled down lifestyle very well. 1. 24' Bayliner Classic cruiser 2. 28' Bayliner Classic cruiser 3. 18' Diamondback Airboat--502 chevy bigblock swamp boat 4. 16' go-devil...

    A "Classic" question.................

My '85 Classic has a Honda 90 and a 54 gal fuel tank as far back as it will go and I have not noticed any issue with it low in the stern. Have always heard that the Classic stood out in the ability to carry a load like that. If you are aware of RedFox. a 115hp and a kicker are mounted along with...

    For Dixie...

This one is for your Possum, good cheap wine. (geopolitical or whatever the term is to define the slow Southern locations). Have nice Holidays and keep smiling! Ron

    For Dixie...

Jim, You know how to cook that white meat (possum) don't you? Skin the possum, add plenty of salt and pepper, coat it with the (new Walmart) wine. Find a nice cedar board, preheat the over to 350 deg. Tack the possum to the board and bake it for 1 hour. Remove it from the oven, throw the...

    Open up C-22 berth?

Love my '85 Classic for the reason in this post. It is so easy to enter and exit the berth and note how the "dash" area follows the window line. Check the Elk-Tenn album. Ron

    Head East After Powell Gathering?

Ei and Bill, Leaves are just beginning to turn on the Tenn. River here in North Al. It seems to be a little late this year and I don't know if the amount of rain we have had is causing the difference or not. I may be wrong but guess it will be early in Nov. before they peak, unless we see a...

    Portable battery jump starter

They are great to have not only for saving the day on dead batteries but providing 12 v for other little needs. A neighbor has cancer and is now unable to use his little pedal powered boat in our cove. I bought a small used trolling motor, mounted it on his pedal boat and now he can get about 45...

Loss of balance - what's the problem?

It sounds as though many of us have had this problem when first getting a C-Dory. In my case, I do not have trim tabs but only a foil on the engine. My '85 Classic is very sensitive to bow down trim with the engine. My first time out presented the worst feeling I have ever had in a boat...

    Head East After Powell Gathering?

Living here on the Tennessee River, I am planning a Fall color cruise up the river and have not set the date yet. (Depends on the leaves). Wheeler Dam is at Mile 275 on the Ten. and I live at mile 285 at the mouth of the Elk River. Anyone making this trip is welcome at my place. Depending on how...

    I wanna be a brat

Terry, Welcome, sounds like you are set for days of enjoyment. I had a Reese class V installed on a Chevy with a Lance camper. The extension to clear the camper worked great and the sleeve to drop down in size without the camper was easy use. Good luck and get an album to let us see your rig. Ron
